Purchased the ASUS ROG Strix G17 (2023) in February 2024, expecting top-tier performance. However, just before the warranty expired, the motherboard failed and required repair. Now, merely months out of warranty, the laptop refuses to charge or power on. Experiencing two major hardware failures within such a short timeframe is unacceptable for a high-end device. ASUS's support has been unhelpful post-warranty, leaving me with an expensive paperweight. I expected better durability and customer service from a premium brand.     • Planned obsolescence?
Like the other one star reviews, mine worked great for 15 months - powerful, smooth, everything I was looking for. Then it started acting oddly - updates failing, not finding components (it lost the wifi for about six weeks before suddenly recognizing it again; similar thing with the storage drive). Eventually it will boot and hang on a black screen before even loading Windows. Months of repair and recovery efforts for nothing. I finally took it in to Microcenter (the recommendation of the ASUS support team). They opened it up and the next morning I was informed that the motherboard was bad. And since it's integrated with the video card and some other systems it would cost more than the value of the laptop to fix. Once could be bad luck. But this is the second RoG laptop I've had die on me due to core components failing. The first ROG lasted 22 months. At this point it feels like they are set up to last through warranty and then quickly fail. ... show more
