MY wife really likes this knife set. She is glad that they can be kept all together in one pleasant looking holder. Having the sharpener in the holder is an additional benefit. She no longer has to sift through a drawer for the correct knife and we have no idea where our old knife sharpener ended up. The knives are extra sharp and have no problem in making extra thin slices of tomatoes. They are great for cutting avocados. There is not an issue of cutting through the avocado skin and then slipping when it breaks through the skin. The steak knives also work really well. They work as well as our Cutco steak knives. My only concern is with the non-stick coating on the blades. I am not sure what the material is made of. Hopefully not a Teflon base. I also hope it does not slowly wear off and therefore we would be consuming this material over time. I would not suggest putting these knives in a dishwasher. The instructions state to "Use non-abrasive detergent and wipe with cloth". The "Block" holder is wood on the inside (which is good) with what appears to be a "melamine" type of coating on the outside. This coating will make it easier to wipe down the outside. The scissors are sharp and work well. It is stated that this set has a 100-year warranty. I know I won't be around that long to test it. But if I were, I'd be surprised if the company is still around 100 years from now. The two reasons I gave this 4 starts instead of 5 are: 1 - I have not had them long enough to test the durability and 2 - I need to have them for a longer period of time to see how the coating lasts

Time will tell if these maintain their sharpness, but as of now they all work very well and the built in sharpener is a nice touch. The scissors are honestly the best part. My one complaint is that the handles stain very easily, see picture, and despite washing, they don't seem to come out.

The Astercook Knife Set, Kitchen Knives with Block and Sharpener are a nice set. Not only are they made with high quality stainless steel and are very sharp, but the built in sharpener is a great feature. Dull knives will no longer be an issue in my household with this sharpener located right in the wooden knife block. The ergonomic handles are comfortable. I ordered the black handles, thinking the blades were stainless steel since they looked that way in the pictures. They actually are white which look fine (although I would have preferred a stainless steel color). Also, the included directions are a little confusing since they suggest washing with a cloth even though the description says they could be washed in the dishwasher. The set includes everything you need: Chef knife, Slicing knife, Santoku knife, Serrated bread knife, Utility knife, Paring knife, 6 serrated steak knives, and a kitchen shear. I thought I only really needed the steak knives, but I was so wrong. I actually needed this entire set and now my old knives will be retired. I highly recommend this set for anyone looking for quality knives at a low price and with easy maintenance.

This is exactly what I needed, it was a much needed upgrade from the limited and junky knives and knife block I inherited with my new place. The storage block feels sturdy, and is painted wood to match the knife blades and handles. The built in knife sharpener is great to have included, but unfortunately one of the knife slots in the block is just a liiiittle too short to fit any of the knives all the way up to the handle. The smallest two knives can fit ALMOST all the way in, but it's just too tight for them to settle all the way in and there's still some exposed blade by the base, maybe like a centimeter of it. Not a huge issue for me personally, but a notable flaw with this set, especially if you've got curious little fingers exploring your kitchen. Other than that, I'm very happy with this set of knives and their home! They're aesthetically appealing and the ones I've used so far cut better than almost all of our old knives, though they might not be up to par for a professional, but for me they work great. Not too pricey for such a set (as of writing this review they're only $40), and if you like the look of these and don't mind a potential misfit, I'd totally recommend!
