For context: my experience with memory foam mattresses is limited to a Tempur-Pedic I’ve been sleeping on for the last 10 years. I read a lot of reviews about this Ashley Furniture mattress before buying, but I guess I glossed over the consensus on firm vs medium-firm. The mattress arrived in great time and packaged well. I managed to get it upstairs by myself but I wouldn’t recommend it (in compact-form this thing was HEAVY). Unboxing and unrolling the mattress was also a bit of an awkward job for one person, but not impossible. I didn’t notice any strange smells or weird shape when the mattress was released from the airtight plastic. I gave it the full 48 hours before sleeping on it, but honestly it looked “normal” within less than a day. Could be location or time of year making the environment warm and friendly for the expansion of the mattress—who can say for sure? Edge support is definitely lacking. Not a dealbreaker, but noticeable. The firmness. Ok. I was expecting medium firm, like the description advertises. Maybe I don’t have a good barometer for firmness because of my lack of experience? This thing is FIRM. I was a little nervous laying on it because it almost felt like laying flat on the carpet. There was some give, but the most I would compare it to is a camping pad. I was expecting the worst and most painful night of sleep. I was honestly astounded when I woke up without pain. A week later—still no pain. I would never have purchased a firm mattress for myself, but this really isn’t bad. I don’t feel as cradled by the mattress, like I did with the Tempur-Pedic, but I’m not finding myself missing it. I am working out of town and renting a place while I'm there. After a couple of nights, I found my lower back hurting. I finally pinned it down to the mattress. I tried flipping it over, adding a topper, and putting plywood under it. Still no relief. This mattress was inexpensive enough for me to give it a try. I've been sleeping on it for a few weeks now and my back no longer hurts. I generally like a firm mattress and this one is listed as medium firm but it works great for me. Edit: It's been 4 years and we still LOVE these mattresses! Also had a friend stay over, go home and buy the same mattress for their house! *All attached photos were taken within 4 hours of unpacking* Only time will tell how this mattress holds up but I am very pleased thus far. I bought two 12" full size for my kids (this listing) and a king size 12" Elite for myself & spouse (separate listing) all on a Cyber Monday sale. These are our first memory foam mattresses and I completed an exhaustive amount of research for the better part of a year before settling on these. Upon delivery, these were well packaged. The mattresses each came in a clear bag which was shrinkwrapped around them. They were then rolled and covered in a durable milky-colored plastic and finally boxed in a clearly marked manufacturer's box. We brought the kid's beds in to sit at room temp for a day before unpacking. Each came with clear (albeit unneccessary) instructuons on how to set up. I would highly reccommend if you bought the bed in winter to let it get to room temp before unpacking. It speeds up the recovery proccess tremendously. The kid's beds were up in a matter of minutes with the corners lagging slightly. Ours, which sat in my car in the cold a few days, took longer. Regardless, none of the three took the full 48 hours which is referenced in the packaging. I read a lot about foam beds having an odor. I did not experience an odor with any of these in the slightest, even when first opening. You will want deep pocket sheets/pads/protectors. We have a variety of linens and regular sheets just do not cut it with these. Ashley did not cut any corners on standard bed size measurements and all of these fully fit the frame they are on, one is actually slightly too big. That coupled with the height, you need deep pocket sheets. The beds offer pressure relief but don't suck you in. I like a firm bed and I would classify these as firm. It's my hope that a firmer bed will last longer. The beds do respond to more weight/pressure but certainly aren't pillowy soft. I felt like I was able to change posotions easily. A parter's weight/movements can still be felt but not to the extent of an interspring. Choice of foundation will probably impact this as well. These do not sleep too hot for us. However, being children's beds, they are not loaded down with heavy blankets and comforters so I can't speak to how they might retain heat if that was the case. As I said, time will be the biggest test. Our previous $1,200 mattress lasted less than 4 years. Hell, for $150/bed this was worth the gamble. Comparatively, these only have to last 6 months to be equivalent in price longevity. TL/DR....Reasons for buying: Price, brand/company I have heard of, all foam construction with thick dense base. ... show more

    • Woke up with ZERO back pain this morning!!!

I am laying in bed as I write this, I would normally be trying to sleep longer after an unrestful night, readjusting my lumbar support pillow until I give up and carefully get out of bed to not make my back worse…NOT TODAY! Last night was the first night I slept on this bed and I know this is gonna change my life. I am in tears 🥹 the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it’s about 2 inches larger all around than a traditional queen and sits awkwardly on my box frame.
