I installed these in a front lamp post. Why? Because it's a royal pain in the @zz to access the bulbs inside the sealed fixture. It's high, and hard to get to the bulbs, not to mention the small screws that have to be undone and kept from falling into the grass. Also, since these bulbs are exposed to the extremes of heat and cold throughout the year, CFC bulbs weren't as practical because they took a while to heat up in the bitter cold.
