Top Amazon Reviews

  • Review with 20 years Experience in this Category
Size: 75%
I feel like most of the other people reviewing this keyboard don't have much of a handle on the market in this category. Currently priced at $50 with a 50% off coupon, this keyboard is a STEAL. No, it doesn't have true RGB. It doesn't have hot-swappable keys either. But at this price you want EVERYTHING? Come on. You have to be realistic. They're not going to give away a high-end keyboard at this price. What this does have: Gasket mount! Another reviewer complained of flex when pressing too hard. That's a FEATURE, people. It cushions the typing experience to lessen finger fatigue. It wasn't that long ago that even high-end keyboards didn't have this feature. Multiple sound absorbing layers. If you aren't a keyboard hobbiest, you may not realize that people used to spend (and probably still do) big bucks modifying their keyboards with all kind of materials to achieve the creamy thock sound that this one has built-in. Volume control knob. Following the current trend in higher end keyboards, you get this bang for very little buck. As far as I can tell with a quick search, currently there are no other keyboards at this price point with this feature. Side lighting. Just a few years ago this was only available on high-end keebs. Other info: The listing states the keycap profile is MDA. It might be. At first glance I thought it was OEM, but I'm not intimately familiar with every keycap profile (there are A LOT of profiles out there). They're ABS, which a lot of people say don't hold up over time, but I've always thought that was exaggerated. It probably depends a lot on your personal chemistry, and how oily your fingertips are, whether shine develops quickly or not. That said, there are tons of really awesome PBT keycaps in every profile imaginable for fantastic prices on amazon. That's part of the fun of a mechanical keyboard. You can change them to your heart's content. Or not. There was a reviewer complaining that the keycaps aren't shine-through, so they couldn't see them in the dark. Wellllll, learn to touch-type, maybe? Or purchase a set of pudding-style keycaps (see paragraph above regarding customization). At this price point you can't have everything. I touch type, so this isn't an issue for me. Every set of keycaps that I've encountered in the English language have bumps on the F and J keys to orient yourself for touch typing. I haven't seen anyone complain about not having the numbers pad in this review section, but I've seen it before. This is a tenkeyless or TKL style keyboard. Sometimes called a 70, 75, or 80% keyboard. The lack of the numbers pad is a feature--it gives more room for a mouse on your desk without sacrificing important keys like arrows, del, and function row (like a 60% keyboard does). The only thing sacrificed here that was probably unnecessary is a full-sized right shift. In my experience that's never a problem unless it's reduced to only 1u (the size of a letter keycap) and surrounded by other keycaps--that leads to extra typos in my experience. But this scenario is not that at all. I believe it's reduced from 2.75u to 2.25u, the same as the left shift, and should not pose any problem at all. Most, if not all, keycap sets include extras for just this sort of situation, so you'll be covered unless you buy the most el cheapo keycaps you can find. So that's a review from someone who has been purchasing and using mechanical keyboards since the early 00's. The category has changed incredibly over the last 20 years--for the better. A keyboard like this wasn't even available back then. If you'd placed this keyboard in the hands of an aficionado at that time, they would have screeched with joy. Even the cheapest keebs were well over $100 back then and they don't hold a candle to this one. (I still have a few). I sure hope this helps. ... show more

  • Decent quality, backlight is "Rainbow" not RGB
Size: 75%
The media could not be loaded. I have been using a CM Quick Fire Stealth with red cherry MX keys for the better part of a decade now. I like the smooth and quiet operation the red switches offer compared to other mechanical switches. In this regard, I actually prefer typing on this keyboard over my CM. The rubber backing material they used slightly softens the sound of keys bottoming out and makes typing a bit more muted, which I personally like. I really like the dedicated volume knob built into the top right of the keyboard, I adjust my volume a lot and this option is way better than hotkeys in my experience. The small form factor of the keyboard also works really well for my personal situation because I have a drawing monitor sitting in the middle of my desk. Having a wide keyboard with a number pad forces the keyboard into an awkward position to type on. The only time I've ever missed having a number pad is if I'm doing a lot of numerical inputs, but that's a rare enough occurrence that I just have a cheap number pad sitting in a drawer instead. I also really like the inclusion of the optional yellow keycaps. I'm a big fan of the industrial accent they add to the keyboard. The yellow in my photos is a bit washed out, the actual color is more saturated. All this being said, I do have a few minor complaints. For one I wish there was more color control in the backlight. Although there are a lot of light movement patterns, speeds, and brightnesses you can choose from, the colors in the backlight are fixed. The top row of keys is always green, the next row is always cyan, the next is purple, then pink, then orange, then red. If the decor/peripherals of your desk isn't also rainbow themed, then you'll either want to keep the backlight off or set a custom profile where you manually light up only one or a few rows to keep a coherent color palette. This way you only have a single color or warm/cool colors showing through to match your desk. It works, but may look a bit odd if only half your keyboard is backlit. The backlight is also a bit dimmer than others I've encountered but still easy enough to see in anything but direct sunlight. The PCB holding the keys could also be better supported. During normal use this isn't noticeable at all, but if you press down firmly on the keys you can see the surrounding keys flex downwards a bit. It's the most noticeable in the bottom left and right corners (see video). Again, this doesn't impact normal use at all as normal typing doesn't apply this much pressure, but it just makes the build quality feel a bit lower when handling. Overall I'd say this a solid keyboard if you're okay with the rainbow (not RGB!) backlight. ... show more
