Had a weird stepper motor issues out of the box, however product support was fast and descriptive. Explained a way to re-zero, lube and run a break in file getting me cutting in no time without replacement parts. The machine is pretty rigid and havent had issues related to that from what I can tell. I do wish the base/base board set up was more beefy though. Base board is really the only thing keeping your work piece flat and in place against tool pressure. It's just MDF, ya know? The USB they send is literally a metal shell and plastic insert, no files. They even sent a replacement exactly the same way. Just reach out to support and they'll email the pertinent files quickly. Outside of that, I use fusion360 and export to run on universal gcode sender and it works great.

I ordered this as someone who is reasonably handy and tech-savvy, but with zero CNC experience. And the results were . . . fine. The assembly wasn't too bad. Instructions could have been clearer, and I did have to backtrack once or twice when I did something out of order. But total time was just around an hour, and that was doing it in front of the TV watching a game. So no real issues with that. After that, I was able to get software installed and start making some simple designs for testing. Then to actually translate those designs into finished products took some time. Machinists are skilled workers. Learning how to do all of this correctly is a skill that takes time. So while this is probably among the easiest paths of entry into machining, it is not something that you can just plug and play and all of a sudden make cool things. So as long as you keep that in mind, this should be a good option for you. As best as I can tell, the performance is good. It moves and cuts well. I wish the instructions were move detailed, but again - this is a craft. You're not gonna learn it from a small manual that comes with the tool. Overall, I am glad I have this. It is a fun addition to my workshop and I hope to eventually get better.

Precision CNC Router with an extremely affordable price. Very expandable and upgradable. This comes mostly assembled. Rapid 10 minutes to assemble the rest. Basically install the X-axis carriage assembly. Be sure to pay attention to the screw orientation and the X carriage assembly. Some face in, and some face out, but they can be mixed up and not actually be seated correctly. Wizmaker does correctly point out how these should be installed, but I think because the Artisan is so easy to assemble, several have missed this step. I've seen many videos where people have incorrectly assembled this. As you assemble it, you'll note it has ballscrews on all its axes. There are no belts. This is very high precision. I'll note that during the cold of winter, this did have some sluggish behavior. I solved this by using some light oil on the ball screws and linear bearings. My garage shop is unheated, and it did get freezing cold. As the garage temperature has warmed up in the spring, I have not had any problems at all. I'm looking to install a heater, as precision instruments and devices require stable temperatures to operate at the finest. The size of the Wizmaker Artisan 01 is just right for my needs. If larger pieces need to be carved, they can be tiled. Software programs for CNCs have methods to tile larger projects to fit on smaller CNCs. This comes with a 300w spindle that is fully controlled by the software. Both the spindle on and spindle speed are programmable in the code that runs on this. This is a great feature for roughing passes followed up with finishing passes. The Artisan comes with some free software and a trial version of LightBurn. Lightburn is actually for laser engravers, and the LightBurn company now makes Millmage for actual CNC routers. It has a similar look and feel but is optimized for CNCs. The configuration files that ship with the Artisan can be referenced to configure Millmage. Many other software programs for CNC also work for the Artisan. For example, Autodesk Fusion and Vectrix VCarve. They all have post processors for G-code compatible with the Wizmaker GRBL controller. Wizmaker did an exceptional job of the design of the CNC and controller for use with many software packages. I mention Millmage because it is both CAD/CAM design software and Motion control software in the same package. It really is a simple and friendly software path to using the Wizmaker Artisan 01 for most DIY projects at an affordable price. To use the Wizmaker Artisan 01 on a PC with USB, a special driver needs to be installed. I found the easiest way to install the CH340 USB driver using Millmage. The Artisan includes a hand controller, but I have found that I prefer to use the PC to set up and run jobs. I have touch screen on my PC, and this is much easier than trying to manipulate menus on the tiny hand controller screen. The size of the Artisan fits easily on a 2ft x 3ft bench with room to spare. With the included 300w spindle noise level is quite low. Even when the spindle is run at full speed. Construction is stable and durable with many steel case components, ball screws, and linear bearings. Finely machined and thick solid aluminum is used on some parts, such as the X carriage. It all comes together in high-stability, small form factor CNC. Wizmaker offers many accessories. One I decided to try was the 500w spindle. This too just took minutes to install. There is a separate spindle control box with this spindle. Overall the 500w spindle and its controller are much larger than the 300w that ships standard. There is a lot more power to the 500w spindle. The size of the cable with the 500w spindle will not fit through the existing cable chain on the Artisan. I ended up tie-wrapping the cable externally to the cable chain, and this works out fine for now. I may change out the cable chain in the future, as cable chains allow for better movement of the CNC without any cable drag or tension on the cables. The 500w spindle is turned on and off with the software, but the spindle speed is a manual control. If the spindle is set to any speed in the code, the actual knob on the front of the 500W spindle controller now sets the speed. This turns out to be fine for me. Software like Millmage can stop a job in the middle and let you change spindle speed and the cutting tool as needed. The knob on the 500w spindle controller does not have any speed RPM markings, but none of my routers actually have RPMs listed. I can sense the general speed of the spindle and haven't had a problem. The 500w spindle is louder, but still at acceptable noise levels. It doesn't flood the shop with noise, but I still wear hearing protection. Note the 500w does not increase any accuracy; it just basically allows for faster operations, such as removing lots of wood while V-carving. The spindle comes with a 1/8" collet, but I changed it out for a 1/4". I'm finding a lot more CNC mills come in 1/4" sizes for things I want to carve. Wizmaker has many options to expand the Artisan. Many third-party options are also available. For example, I'm looking for a Z-axis touch block that allows the side of the bit to also zero. The Wizmaker Artisan 01 is a real CNC router with the capabilities of much larger and more expensive machines. The Artisan is a good, solid CNC for people just getting started or for those who only need a CNC for small projects. It is a significant value for what it does and how well it works with software available for CNCs.

This Artisan 01 CNC by Wizmaker is a great entry to intermediate level CNC machine! Normally I don't give a lot of 5 stars for reviews, but this CNC is a game changer for the price. Here are my thoughts on this machine's build quality and performance. What I Liked: This Artisan 01 CNC was packaged very well and 95% pre-assembled! All that needed done was attach the gantry with 8 screws, attach the drag chain, the spindle bracket and spindle, connect 4 cables, plug in the handheld controller and power and it was done! 10-15 minutes assemble time tops! The unit as a whole is built very well. All the parts were high quality and heavy duty. From the gantry to the bed and linear rails, there wasn't anything cheaply made. The bed area is 420mm x 420mm (400mm Usable) for the X & Y axis travel and Z axis has a 90mm travel. This is a linear drive system on all X Y & Z Axis' opposed to a belt driven system on other manufactures at this price range. This also comes with a 300w 12000 RPM spindle (others in this price range only comes with a 60w spindle). With this being a linear drive, it performs smoother and in my opinion more precise where a belt drive would have a tendency to slip. The 300w spindle motor runs amazingly quiet and seems to have enough power even when cutting with a 1/4" shaft 1/2"-90 degree V-Bit. This is plenty of power to carve hard woods, acrylic, and soft metals. There are a supply of 6 1/8" shaft V-Bits that comes with it also. - Note: the spindle only comes with a 1/8" collet for 1/8" shaft bits, to use 1/4" shaft bits you'll need to purchase a 1/4" ER11 collet. The handheld controller is a nice touch, it give you basic functions to move the X Y & Z axis, power up the spindle and set its speed, and uses a standard HDMI cable (comes with a short HDMI coiled cord). The control box was already mounted and pre wired. It has accommodations for the Z-probe, and other controls. There is a button to select from CNC to Laser. Though I haven't seen a laser option accessory available for it. There is also a 500w spindle upgrade and rotary attachment to carve cylindrical shapes. The system is GRBL compatible and the included flash drive has Candle software to run the machine along with the manual and some test carve files (you'll need to supply the wood). I use UGS (Universal G-Code Sender free download software) to control the machine and it works very well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- What I Would Like To See Changed or Added: The handheld remote has a small screen, it would have been nice to have a bigger screen and directional buttons to move the X Y and Z axis. But it does function well for what it does. Or instead of a wired unit, Bluetooth would have been better. It only comes with 1/8" collet and limits you to use only 1/8" shaft bits. I would have liked to see a 1/4" collet included in addition to use 1/4" shaft bits. Though the above are minimal, it's still a 5 star machine. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Issues I encountered: The only issue I had was with the Y axis worm drive screw that controls the forward / backward motion of the gantry. The lubricant that was used was very sticky and tacky. This caused the Y axis to bind in different areas, stop and showed an error code on the remote screen. After cleaning it and reapplying a coat of machine oil, it solved the issue and the Y axis performed as it should. Other than that and putting the machine through a vigorous testing period, there were no other issues whatsoever! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Conclusion: For a CNC machine at this caliber, build quality, linear rails on all axis' and price, this Wizmaker Artisan 01 is something to consider. Would I recommend it? ABSOLUTLY YES! For the price and quality you won't be disappointed!
