  • Wonderful quality
Number of Items: 24 Style: Dual Tip Dot + Brush
Purchased the set of 24 (came in a blue box) - wanted more than just basic colors but didn't want to spend a lot - a good compromise. Haven't used these yet except to test them out, but so far, so good. Pros: 1) they write nice - nice flow, movement, etc. 2) as 'paint' pens, there's no shaking or pressing to get the paint to flow. 3_ The pens I received all seem to be 'full' with no dried out tips - I tested both ends of each pen. 4) The lids all have a nice 'snap' and stay on securely. Cons: 1) The box comes with a swatch on the back, giving each color a name and number - but the pens themselves have neither names or numbers, so you can ONLY go by the lid color. And that's pretty tricky. While testing, I made a mark on the swatch with the best, to me, corresponding colored pen. Some colors are amazingly close, others - not at all. First photo shows how I -mistakenly- marked the 'brown' pen on 'Gingerbread' before realizing it left no swatch for the lighter (tan) color. Yeah - the 'brown' is supposed to be 'Stone Grey' apparently. Go figure. In a case like this, I like to mark the pen on a white label, cut a strip, and stick it around the lid of the pen so I can see the true color. Unfortunately, 2) the lids are all very textured with ridges, so this time I'll have to stick it on the pen itself. But where? not on either end close to the caps (it'd cover the symbol showing which tip is which, & don't want it under my fingers when using the pens) so it'll have to go in the center of pen, annoyingly over the text. Not really any other option. Overall, I do like the pens and would buy them again - the annoyances are small compared to their quality. Edit: Added my 'actual color' strip to each pen (except black, white, gold, & silver) and added the color # in case I decide to order a larger variety later. Amazingly, the actual colors are VERY close to the cap colors! Amazing because this isn't usually the case! The photo shows how just 2 of the colors are a bit off - the bright pink & the yellow next to it in the top row. Realized I missed the 'tan' and 'grey' pens after the photo was taken. The tan is spot on, but the grey ... it's the same color as the cap, but lighter. You'd need 2-3 coats to make it the same as the cap. As for how they work - great! Coverage, even over a dark color, is impressive. On the head shown I used black (for the outlines and the eye area), red, light & dark blue, and white (ONLY for the dots on the black part of the eye). The light blue was over the black of the eye and 2-3 coats gave the color shown. ... show more

  • Lots of colors!
Number of Items: 30 Style: Fine Tip
The Artistro 30 fine tip paint markers come in a very nice box with a metal clasp. The box is lovely and makes a good place to store them on my desk. Upon opening the box, the markers are labeled on the caps with a number which corresponds with a color chart on the back of the box, which I find makes it easy to find the exact color I’m looking for. I also really like that it comes with an instruction card and two replacement nibs. The paint markers come in a nice variety of colors including pastels, neons, skin colors, and metallics. I really like the variety of colors in this set. The one critique I have about the colors would be that 41 and 55 (beige and coral pink) look like they may be mislabeled as 55 looks more beige and 41 looks more coral. Also the pastel purple doesn’t really look pastel to me, and the fuchsia is really a dark pink. Other than that, the colors are beautiful and looked great when I made a swatch of all the colors. The pens were really quick to prime. I worked on a few different projects to test them out, wood slice ornaments, rocks, and a canvas painting. I did have a couple problems which may be due to being new to paint pens. Since they are fine point they are great for details, not so much for coloring in large areas. I noticed after using them for the second or third time that while some of the pens remained opaque, others became watery and needed to be shaken quite vigorously to get paint to go on better. I do have a set of 15 medium tip Posca pens I bought shortly before these. In comparing the two, Posca does have better coverage and opacity, especially over black. However, the Artistro is a great choice considering the variety of colors and how many markers you get for the price compared to Posca. The Artistro 30 set was about $38 vs. $30 for the 15 set of Posca. I had a lot of fun drawing with them and experimenting on different surfaces. I think this set, combined with the cute box, and the variety of beautiful colors, would make a great gift for any level artist and I would certainly recommend them! ... show more
