This paint brush set is fantastic for oil paints and/or gouache paints. The bristles consist of dense pig hair which is pretty stiff and easy to work with paints that look good with more texture to them. The ferrule is well constructed and feels sturdy. On first use I did loose a couple hairs on my brushes but, I find that to be expected with any new brushes (no matter the hair fibers). The brushes are so easy to work with. They create beautiful strokes and texture style that I was looking for. I appreciate the nice durable little case for my brushes when I'm storing them between uses. I also love the variety includes in this set. There's an excellent range of brushes to create beautiful pieces with this brush set. This is an excellent set for beginner or intermediate artist like my self. I'm very pleased with this brush set and would absolutely recommend it! They would also make a great gift set to any beginner or exploring artist as well.

I picked these up because I needed a full assortment of brushes for one large project that I could toss afterwards or use for junk brushes so I didn't ruin a bunch of high-quality ones for this project using a variety of paints and inks on a rough wood, metal, and masonry board substrate, and these are working perfectly. I notice that some people have been talking about the shedding, and I get that, but really, you will see similar issues with basically any brush sets using hog hair, etc with this many brushes for a price like this, so you always have to check them for as many loose fibers as you can before EACH USE, which is really just good practice with any natural hair/fiber brushes at any price level. For this particular mixed media project this is a plus though since I am using any textures, dirt, hairs, whatever, as part of the overall aesthetic anyway, so I am not even bothering with spending much time pulling them out before painting, and in fact, I have been putting the ones I do find into a little cup with some other misc fibers I have been collecting and then mixing them all into a thick base and using that to create a specific texture in a specific spot, all of which has been made easier by the coarse natural brushes, to begin with. Having said all that, I wouldn't suggest using these on delicate work or anything where some errant hairs would be hard to extract from the surface if you did happen to get some loose ones while painting. But, again, I feel like this can be said of all brushes similar to these.

These are good quality long handled brushes that are perfect for beginner or intermediate painters. Yes, the brushes do shed a bit when first using them. I have rarely found affordable brushes that don't shed at least a little. I appreciate the storage box that they are stored in and the assortment of rounds, flats, angle and fan brushes.

Good shapes and sizes, brush-end reasonably sturdy, but... even just running your finger across the top of the brush a few times causes bristles to pop out. I have other brands where this doesn't happen (and some where it does). I'm always looking for good brush sets with a variety of flat and round brushes in different sizes. A fan brush is handy too. I also like the long wooden handle. This box-set has all the features I hoped for except one fatal flaw... if the bristles drop, and get into a painting it's a nuisance and a distraction. If you don't notice right away and it's acrylic paint that dries fast, it's hard to get them out and can mar the surface. Even with good brushes, I recommend rubbing your fingers across them to remove any stray hairs that might be in there from the manufacturing process before using them. After that, if they keep dropping hairs while you are painting, find another brand. Because the set is good in most respects I wasn't sure whether to give it 4 stars or 3, but this is a crucial detail. I know it's possible to make brushes that don't drop bristles, I have a few, but this set, even though very promising, didn't quite make the grade.

I needed a basic starter set of painting brushes and ordered these because I thought they were the right price. Fortunately, they are also an excellent value. The assortment covers all the sizes and shapes I need - and some I don't know what to do with - and clean up very nicely. I use them with acrylics. The bristles are natural and do not shed. The handles are wooden and are quite long. I really like the fact that they came in a reusable plastic storage box that I can use for all my brushes. Overall, a nice selection of good-quality painting tools that I will be using a lot. Five stars!

This a really nice variety of sizes. I donβt have any oils yet, only watercolor and acrylics, but I tested two of the brushes with acrylic paint on canvas. Donβt judge my skills (which actually are non-existent for painting) only judge the brush strokes. The first masterpiece, a still-life pear, is on canvas; the second, Eat-Your-Heart-Out-Picasso, is on smooth Bristol. Anxious now to get some oils to try out on my Renoir interpretation.

I'm currently taking a course in oil painting. Brushes make a big difference to the quality of work. I find that these incredibly affordable brushes have a great stiffness for my work. You get a nice plastic case with fifteen brushes in various widths and shapes. The brushes have nice long handles necessary for some painting styles. This is a great brush set for beginners. I haven't used it with other mediums yet, but it also seems appropriate for acrylics.

I liked the brushes. I felt they are a decent value for all that you get and with the case to keep them in. They do shed a bit here and there but not every time I use them. For starting out I feel they worked out well.
