Pros: These soft chalk pastels color very nicely, they're non-toxic, and come in many different colors. Cons: They break easily and are already pretty small. The darker colors are difficult to wash off. The packaging needs tape to be kept closed. Overall, it is a great Product! I would especially recommend it for younger children since they have small hands or for anyone who prefers to hold smaller pieces. Still, anyone can use them, just don't push down too hard when coloring. These ARE chalk so, yes they do break and yes they are messy :) ... show more

I’m a long time artist, but this is my first experience with soft pastels. I did a lot of research, read a lot of reviews and settled on these. Where has this medium been my whole life and why is the first time I’ve tried it? Nobody told me how much fun this is! These were soft and vibrant and went down on paper and blended beautifully. There was a lot of dust to manage, but overall for the price this was an excellent choice and I’ve already ordered another set because I can see me blowing through this pretty quickly. I love that they are non-toxic pigments and I know it’s a lot to ask at this price point, but I would love some light fast ratings and feel that’s the only thing this is missing. ... show more

I ordered this product to touch up a chalk pastel creation I made many years ago. The collection has every single color and more which I needed to restore my original artwork--as well as adding additional flair to the piece! The packaging is excellent and comes with a protective tray to prevent the chalk pieces from becoming dislodged during shipping. As an additional foresight, the manufacturer also included a foam protective layer to contain chalk dusk and prevent cross-contamination of colors. The breadth of colors encompasses virtually any hue you might wish to use. Creating such a wide palette leaves less room for quantity of each color, although for my purposes this is exactly what I needed. As a bonus, extra long white and black pieces are included. This is one of my first times trying out the soft pastels. When I got the product, there was dust all over the place. Inside there were 2 pastels that were already cracked, and the large stick of black broke after barely using it. The colors seemed to come out good, but some of them wouldn't blend fully out so there was dark lines underneath what I was drawing. ... show more

I am into Bible journaling. I'm always looking for a new medium to incorporate. I'm not a pro with blending colors (Prismacolor, various colored pencils, paint, etc.) but you don't have to be for these to work! Just a light rub on your paper or a light tap to get the dust to fall onto your paper is all you need. These are SUPER blendable, VERY highly pigmented, and fairly "forgivable" should you make a mistake. You can use non-alcohol hairspray to seal your picture. To smooth the color dust out, I used cotton balls, paper stumps, and kleenex. The BEST dust spreader is your own finger. (Messy, but worth it.) The intensity of the product is determined by how much you use (a little goes a long way,) and the tooth of the paper. You can use the chalks as a foundation because you can still write on top of them with ink and colored pencils. I began with pastels and had no idea how soft,with great quantity of pigment, and bright they are, and the price is a deal. I have tried different brands, these are softer than Rembrandt, almost as soft as Richeson. I am so happy that I found them for everyday projects and I complement with anothers of very good quality like Mount Vision and Smincke. I will buy again and looking for other products of that brand ... show more
