  • Does the job even if it kills your spirit
Size: 4' x 10'
Before you begin this project you will need: - Case of Beer - Gloves - Several tupperware containers - Patience - Swear jar - Drill - A willing assistant whom you're willing to owe for the rest of your life When they delivered the shed, they dropped it off at the garage and were gone. Even though the delivery company called in advance to schedule the time and asked if someone was going to be home so that they could haul it to the back-yard. It sounded too good to be true - it was. When I came home I saw a huge, heavy box on my driveway and had to schlep it to the side-yard. The box was half ripped, half opened. Before you begin construction - do the inventory of parts. I'm glad I did because 4 small pieces critical to construction of the shed were missing. I called the Arrow Shed company and they promptly sent the missing parts (4 days or so). Once everything was organized, I started construction. The instruction set is written by some illiterate 5-year old, but if you've ever assembled IKEA furniture or followed Lego instructions - you should be able to decipher it. There are some things they don't mention, like having to screw, and then unscrew screws to accommodate a new layer of siding. I mentioned a swear jar. WARNING: during construction, keep kids away from the construction site if you don't want them to hear all the F-bombs you're about to shout out. If you're one of those people who likes to keep a swear jar - by the time you're done with this shed, it will have paid for itself, even if you only put one quarter for each swear word you utter. Having a helper will make this faster and easier. I'd say 80% of the shed you can do by yourself, but for the siding panels and nut bolts it helps to have someone - in fact it's necessary. I completed the project in about 6-7 total hours spread over 2 days. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever put together but I'm disappointed that I had to purchase a separate floor frame kit and then haul to Home Depot to get the plywood for flooring. Why this isn't included in the kit is beyond me. ... show more

  • It's a $400 shed... what do you expect?!?
Size: 4' x 7'
The reviews on this item are just crazy. It's a corrugated metal shed that arrives in a cardboard box... OF COURSE it's going to be cheap, and OF COURSE the assembly is going to be tedious. If you don't want that, spend more money! That said, I was actually impressed at how well it came together. It won't feature in better homes and gardens anytime soon, but it was a cheap solution that got tons of crap out of my garage and should last for years in my dry climate. Three notes: If you don't have a friend who's willing to devote about two days to helping you assemble it, don't buy it. It's not a one person job. Full stop. If you start with a square and level base, assembly is easy. I built a simple platform from pressure treated 2x4s and OSB for less than $100, and that made the rest of the structure go together SO easy. If your base isn't level and square, none of the holes will line up and you'll have a real fight on your hands. None of the holes are threaded. They're just holes. So if you over-tighten a screw, that hole is shot. DON'T OVER-TIGHTEN the hardware. If you're using a drill, keep it on the lowest clutch setting. Otherwise, tighten by hand to avoid stripping the holes. ... show more

  • Functional shed, lots of waterproofing needed when done, thin metal, not particularly attractive, but decent for the price.
Size: 4' x 7'
This shed took a full day to build with one person and half-a day to weather-seal with caulk and install flooring. The aluminum is remarkably thin, with sharp edges and dents easily and catches and whips about in the slightest wind (so eye/face protection is a must). If you need a perfect-looking shed, this isn't for you. If you need a security shed that can't be broken into, this isn't for you. The panel sheets have part numbers painted on the outside making it look a bit ugly, and mine came scratched a bit in a beat-up cardboard box. You will dent it when installing it. The dents sort of pop back out, though. The screws are the shortest sheet metal screws I have ever seen, and thus, if things aren't just flush, they strip out, recommend #8 or #10, 3/4 inch pan head sheet metal screws in case you strip out what they give you, and these are a bit longer too. The giant bag of screws are daunting, and every last one is used, an extra bag comes with it in case something is lost (I think, although I dumped all the parts together and can't remember if the extra screws came with the floor kit or not) . The instructions are adequate, but pictures are poor, so you really have to lay each piece out and think about how they fit together. Pieces are not symmetrical in terms of holes (like the threshold plate, the top middle roof support bars). The "install the screw then remove and replace" complaint in prior reviews is a real issue as this weakens the metal with each install, but can be done with one install with planning. Once assembled, without a floor, you can get inside it and scoot it around pretty easily. If you anchor it, you need to buy an anchor kit. If you spring the extra $70, you can get about six metal bars that sit on the ground that you can later cut plywood to fit over, probably cheaper to build a wood frame and forgo these, but they do hold the bottom sides together, and weight down the frame with a full shed. The floor can be put in when all finished. If the frame is not completely square, nothing lines up, including the floor, and the doors when you are totally done, which takes some adjusting. Finally weatherproofing. I bought some roofing elastic caulk and some aluminum ducting tape (not plastic duct tape). After installing the roof, I sealed every conceivable exterior hole or crack with caulk (about three tubes), including covering the screws. Inside, I repeated the process on the roof. The sides got aluminum tape to bridge the wide gaps with some caulk on the open edges afterward. All in all 8 tubes of caulk. The door is "sticky" but closes. Waiting for the first rainstorm, and if this leaks, will repost more. Good luck. ... show more
