  • Overheats and died, failed in 6 Months
It is written by others this router gets hot. That is an understatement, too hot to live very long. I had this in a airy place, iow open air. Six months after purchase it died. Signal in, no signal out. Xfinity reset it three times over three days changed nothing. No internet from router to computer, direct connect or router. I left it unplugged overnight, started over in the AM same issue, inbound signal, no out bound. Ethernet cable connected from modem to computer failed. No rear Ethernet ports had an output signal. Tested with cable tester. Dead! Connected my old MG7700 Motorola modem had instant connection after Xfinity activation. Stable, steady connection. I still wanted to maximize 1GB+ xfinity service ordered and tried to use Motorola MB8600. Failed to connect see my review. I wonder now after two Modem failures, Arris fried, Motorola would not connect, DOCSIS 3.1 standard has inherent ROM issues within program language or mfgr is using 3.0 chips claim to be 3.1. I wouldn’t put it past them to defraud users. At this stage Arris is dead a defective supplier as Motorola. None of the 3.1 standards advertised, in my opinion, are higher than 3.0. My next step is DSL. Cable internet is not worth the trouble or expense. When my MG7700 is too obsolete for Xfinity DSL is next. ... show more

  • Way better than the cable companies modem they WAY overcharge you for.
This modem does one thing and it does it very well. It's fast, reliable, and does not have to be reset constantly. I'm never going back to the cable company's modems. This does not have WiFi nor router functionality. Buy a separate router and a separate wifi gateway which just does that job. Yeah, it adds a bit of cost, but the reliability is worth it. ... show more

  • Excellent for my Comcast Xfinity cable modem replacement
I replaced the Comcast supplied modem with this and its works great. I paired it up with the TP-Link AX3000 WiFi router for a robust and affordable connection for 2020. I increased my internet speed with Comcast and am fully able to utilize it all.

  • Intermittent Problems, ARRIS washing its hands
The modem basically does what it's supposed to do -- let me take advantage of my 1 GbE RCN cable service. I get the advertised RCN download and upload speeds -- 980 Mbits down, 30 or so up. However, I have an intermittent problem with VOIP devices on my network. On every call, after a few minutes, I will stop hearing the voice from the other side. They will hear me, but I won't hear them. I spent MONTHS troubleshooting this -- ruling out my ASUS AC86U router, WIFI versus WIRED, and my ATA adapter by swapping these with replacement devices. Only replacing the Arris modem with a nearly identical one (CM8200) "rented" to me by RCN made the VOIP drops go away. According to Arris and many sites on the Web, the CM8200 (Black) and SB8200 (White) are the same modem. The CM version is for ISPs and doesn't come with consumer packaging. The SB version comes in a retail box. Otherwise, identical. When I called Arris to get a replacement, they asked me "what were my Power levels on upload and download channels?" The Modem web page when connected to the RCN rental modem showed Downstream Power levels to be okay (around 3-4 dBmV, within the range Arris says they support). However, the Upstream Power was between 32 and 33 dBmV. Arris support said "our requirement for upstream is 45-51 dBmV. We won't replace the modem unless you show it not working at that level." Meanwhile, RCN says "32-33 is totally normal for upstream and what we see with everybody". So, I'm stuck between two companies who are essentially blaming each other. RCN implies that maybe they modify the Arris hardware so that it works with the lower power level, but the support guy on the phone didn't give me much confidence. He sounded as if he were just making this up. So, now my choice is: 1) keep renting a working modem from RCN or 2) buying another one from some unsuspecting vendor (Amazon?) and trying that out to see if a replacement actually works, and if not returning it. And maybe using the replacement experience to pressure Arris to take the original one back. Arris doesn't seem inclined to help at all. Typical unhelpful company that puts customer satisfaction at the bottom of its priorities. ... show more

  • Do not buy this modem if you want faster than 200mbps on Comcast/Xfinity
Comcast/Xfinity does not support faster than 200mbps speeds on DOCSIS 3.0. You have to have a DOCSIS 3.1 model in order to receive 600mbps or faster.
