  • Wonderful good, with minor caveats
Size: 7.5 Color: Taupe
My all time favorite shoes. Steel shank mid foot prevents arch sag without a lump. Wide enough for forefoot but still tapered at toe, so not clumpy looking. I'm 60 and these have been my go to boots for 13 years. They are ideal for walking and riding. PERFECT for plantar fascitis!! The smooth sole, designed to slide into a stirrup, is, in my opinion, deadly on ice or snow, even with a tread, the bottoms are perfectly smooth. I never wear on any slippery surface if I can avoid. They run large...by 1/2 size unless you wear super super thick socks. I measure precisely US women's 8. I buy 7.5 in these but 8 or 8.5 in all other footwear. Otherwise as they stretch you will not be able to tie them tightly enough, the leather will come together over your foot before they are snug. This is their one flaw. As they stretch you may find yourself needing thicker and thicker socks. My foot is on the wide / normal side, but after one year they are only good with thick socks. One reason not to buy used your first time. Amazon usually has best prices. ... show more

  • Runs slightly large, very comfortable and solid boots
Size: 5.5 Color: Taupe
I have a well-loved and well-worn pair of Heritage Lacer IIs from Ariat. On a hiking trip last year, I even ended up swapping out my hiking boots for my Lacers after several blisters. So for my most recent trip, I decided to invest in some actual hiking/work boots from Ariat. These did not disappoint. The first time I wore them was on a relatively easy three mile hike. The next few times were on moderate to strenuous hikes through Acadia National Park. I didn't get any blisters and my feet felt well-supported. The laces stayed tied and the soles gripped well. The only thing that surprised me was sizing. I am a solid size 6, but I sometimes order up for boots to accommodate thicker socks. After reading reviews, I ordered my regular size 6 and they were still too big. I ended up sizing down to a 5.5 which fit comfortably even with thicker socks. (My old Ariat Lacers are so well worn, I wasn't able to read the size on them anymore to compare when buying these) ... show more

  • The most comfortable water proof hiking boots I have found.
Size: 8 Color: Taupe
This is my second pair. They are extremely comfortable and offer great support. My first pair lasted for a long time and a great deal of hiking in the Rockies. I would recommend these to anyone who wants a great pair of boots. Ariat is an American made company and I am glad to support American made and get and incredible pair of hiking boots. ... show more

  • Mostly happy with these boots
Size: 8.5 Color: Taupe
They are comfortable and light, and I wear them for work (at a stable) and also have worn them while riding. Only complaint is that within 6 months of use (New England summer and fall) the part that bends when you walk is splitting open, and the waterproofing lasted for even less time. I would recommend getting extra boot waterproofer if you get these boots, and reapply regularly. Unfortunately that won't help when they start to crack, but for the most part they're a decent boot. If you're just doing hiking or light duty work, they'd probably be great, but the durability just isn't there for real daily use. I now don't wear them if it's raining or I have a horse to bathe because my feet WILL be wet despite my efforts. $20 tractor supply boots have gotten me further they just are heavier and harder on the feet. My coworker also has these and had the same cracking and waterproofing issue. We loved them for the first two or three months. ... show more

  • Solid, lightweight women's hiker
Size: 7.5 Color: Taupe
This is a nice little boot. I have trouble finding footwear - partly because I am very particular about what I want in a shoe, and partly because I have some pretty serious orthopedic issues that make it hard to find shoes that really work for me. These popped up in a "suggested" sidebar post in my social media one day, and I thought "why not? I like my Ariat cowboy boots, so I'll give them a try." That they were on a good sale was a bonus. Anyway, regardless of how I came to own them, let me tell you about the boots. 1) They are Ariat quality (and that's a good thing). Everything seems to be very well-made so far (I've only had them a few months). The sole is well-attached, the lace grommets are solid with no rough edges, and the overall construction is pleasing. 2) They look good. Let's face it, that's a factor. Some boots look like floppy clown shoes. Some look like they really wanted to be sneakers. These boots do neither. They are hiking boots with understated style. 3) They are lightweight and don't have any extra bulk. It seems like a lot of hikers are getting the "padded" treatment, leaving you with an odd, indescribable feeling... something between being wrapped in balloons and wearing a shoe box instead of an actual shoe. Not so with these Ariats. They are streamlined without being pointy, and close without being tight. 4) Along the same line, these Ariats seem to breathe much better than the last pair of "other" boots I purchased, even though those were labelled "breathable fabric" and these are honest leather. 5) If I had to make a complaint, it would be about the insole, which doesn't seem to offer much support. That said, they do offer much more support than most hikers I have tried lately, and a good deal of that problem is probably due to my freak-feet and their issues. It was a problem easily fixed by swapping out the insole for a custom orthotic with the arch support I need. There you have it. I would recommend these boots to anyone who needs a solid, dependable hiker. Yes, they are a little more expensive (so keep an eye out for sales), but they seem to be built to last. ... show more

My similar style Ariats were wearing out and I loved them. Found these for a great deal and couldn’t say no. Still same quality
