  • Good design, but sub-par durability, truly a blue sky scenario product.
Size: 2500x2500
I purchased this product in March of this year. It has seen 5 serious uses since. Some of this product's usefulness/drawbacks are a critique of the awning that is required as part of the room. PROS: - The setup and tear-down time is relatively low and fairly straightforward. - I like the overall design of the awning room. - There's plenty of ventilation and screens on all sides of the room. - There's zipper access on all four sides. - There are two zipper accesses for cables at the top edge of the room. - There are plenty of ties, hooks, and D-rings for stakes or other mounts. - The black, tarp-like bottom is fairly durable and sits high (about 1 foot) off the ground. - The room has an actual ceiling. - Material is water resistant. - Quite spacious. CONS: - Because the room is a cube, you need to use some kind of pole (see pictured) to elevate the awning to prevent water from pooling when it rains. Even if you do that, some water still needs drained from the corners. - Some of the room is of average or above-average durability, namely the zippers and screen mesh, and room-bottom. However, the fabric could be a lot stronger. - The seams could be double-sewn instead of single-sewn. - The fabric in terms of the walls and seams should be thicker and stronger. - The fabric housing the pull-through into the awning's groove/slot is not strong enough. It ripped after only 5 uses. That was extremely disappointing. ARB has been notified, I'm waiting for a response. - The room has to be staked down and anchored for even light to moderate winds. Not doing so will likely bend or break the weak aluminum poles or velcro staps of the awning. Overall I wish the room was more durable through and through. There's really no need for ARB to skimp on the quality of the fabrics, seams, and other components due to weight or anything like that because the room is not mounted to the vehicle, the awning is. So I'd like to see the room built stronger like a proper tent. I also think ARB should ditch the fabric groove part of the assembly and make BOTH attachment points a zipper. Not only would this be easier to setup, it would be stronger and more durable! ARB has a lot of potential to make this better and if they did it would be truly a convenient product for outdoor recreation. ... show more

  • Probably not going to work for me.
Size: 2500x2500
Pros: Excellent quality, nice materials and sewing, zippers work nice, lots of small well thought out design ideas and the mosquito netting and front awning are great. Also that it is totally enclosed to keep crawling things out and to keep my dog from running off after something at night. Cons: Setup probably isn't going to work for me. Takes too long, and still flaps around and makes too much noise in the wind. Better for fair weather camping where you just need the mosquito netting or the shade. Netting is very fine which cuts small breezes and makes it muggier inside. But it keeps out all bugs. The side against the vehicle I thought would be a welcome design but I won't use it. The whole side zips rather than a door sized opening (like they had on the previous model) and it just seems cumbersome to use to access the car. That is the side where I would put my chair/table, etc anyway. More Detail: Just came back from first trip trying it out for 2 days in 2 locations. Setup is more involved than I want to deal with. I moved camp to a better spot and broke it down and put it back up and it went up a little easier the 2nd time. Still it took me 30 minutes by myself. You need to use the ties if you want everything snug, otherwise it looks crappy and the floor is loose. The shape against my 4runner doesn't allow that side to get staked down tight. I put some rocks in the corners, but it still kind of bunches up. The corner pulls are kind of weird design too so it is hard to get it tight. The height of your awning makes a difference and at just the right height it would be nice. On my 4runner, the awning is mounted a little lower than the tent is designed for so the bottom kind of bunches up. The 2nd day I got a lot of rain and even though I did my best tying it down, water came in from the zippers at the bottom. It was a very heavy sideways rain and it didn't get horribly wet inside so I could wipe it up with just one beach towel, but if I was not sleeping on a cot, I would not trust in heavy rains. When the rain slowed down it didn't come in anymore. Probably some sealer on the zippers would help. I think that is where it was getting driven in because the bottom seems 100% waterproof. It got pretty windy too and I'm glad I had it double staked, but it moves around a lot and makes a lot of noise. It stayed windy all night and I didn't sleep much with everything moving and flapping around. I eventually went inside my 4runner. The first nice was calm and it was fine. But if this is my main sleep setup, it needs to work in pretty all conditions that I would camp. I was also surprised that the netting killed the small breeze and it felt hot and muggy inside during the middle part of the day when it was already too hot and humid. The rain cleared up and was sunny the next day so I had time to dry it out before putting it away. That took at least an hour drying off the wet parts, then flipping it over in the sun to get the underside dry, etc. And this was an area with open grassy space. Putting it away in the rain would have been lousy. I would have just shoved it all in the car and dealt with it at home. I will say the quality is great and it is impressive for the price. The zippers works well and you can open them with one hand in most cases. It is a great size and because the walls are vertical it is all usable. The roof is another problem area though. My cheapo ARB knock-off awning isn't taught enough in the middle to drain water by itself, and the tent also accumulates water from some of the driving rain. It is waterproof so it doesn't come in but I had to bail the water off both tops a lot until it stopped raining. That is a design flaw in my opinion. They need a fiberglass pole that runs down the middle and pushes the top up so it self drains. Lowering a leg can work for an awning but the tent is designed to be a certain height. If I use this in the future, I will probably try to come up with something. An extendable tent pole in the middle would be an easy solution but that cuts into the usable interior layout. But it needs something. It only rained for a couple hours and it kept me busy bailing the whole time. Plus the droop cuts into the ceiling height. I think I am going to look for a free standing 4-6 person tent with screen sides and fiberglass tent poles like my backpacking tent only bigger. I think I could set that up much quicker and just put it under the awning or somewhere else if I want to. If it is tall enough, it would push up the awning middle so it would self drain too. And if I need the rain fly, I can put it on in a second. ... show more

  • Totally happy with size, set-up, versatility and quality, also in wind and rain.
Size: 2500x2500
I used it twice in combination with my ARB awning and slept in it one night with wind gusts and rain. To set up the awning you need two people, but this tent you can do alone. Its an easy slide-in at the car side, as well at the outside, and clip on on the two other sides. If you hate setting up a normal tent, you will love setting up this product. The light strip is just an easy connection with your car 12V cigarette plug, or with a portable battery. The cable that comes with it is long enough. The space inside is great. I am 6ft2 and cannot look over the roof of my SUV, which means I can stand up straight in this tent. And 3x me could lie in it on a mattress. During day time you can zip open all sides and you will be protected by mosquito nets. At night you can leave some open to get air in or close it all off and be perfectly protected against the elements. I had big wind gusts in North Texas with rain, and the tent kept up and everything on the inside was dry next morning. You need to be aware that due to the square shape and due to different car sizes it is mounted to, the set-up is not necessarily as tight as with a normal tent, also not when using the tent pegs and guy lines. This results in more flapping noise from the sides than you would have with a normal tent, especially with wind gusts. That is the only disadvantage I could think of sofar. ... show more
