  • Good, solid buy, with one caveat
Capacity: 13" 2.9GHz / 16GB Memory / 512GB Soli...
I actually picked up two of these MacBook Pro units - both are the early 2015 Retina display with the GOOD keyboard, one with a 2.9 Ghz processor with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage for myself, and one with a 2.7 Ghz processor with 8 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage for my 12 year old granddaughter to do her schoolwork on. Both units look and perform like absolutely BRAND NEW. We both love our laptops and they are a SOLID deal. The caveat is this (and this is something people need to look out for) - the chargers that came with both units are counterfeit. How do I know this? - They SPARKED WILDLY as soon as they were plugged into the MacBooks at the MagSafe connector on the laptop itself. This really freaked me out and scared me since this is a huge safety issue. In researching this, I come to find out that there are indeed counterfeit MagSafe 2 chargers out there - many on Amazon that LOOK EXACTLY like Apple produced MagSafe2 chargers, however, they do not contain the safety features that Apple includes in their product. If you purchase or receive a MagSafe 2 charger from Amazon, you need to be aware of this. How you can tell that the charger is fake is this: the printing on the label is darker and will read "Dongguan Samsung Electro Mechanics". Do not use it, as I've read it can potentially destroy the motherboard to your laptop. The "official" Apple produced MagSafe 2 chargers have a lighter print and read "Delta Electronics". This was an easy fix for us - I picked up the official Apple charger directly from the Apple Store and no more sparking. I have included two photos of the charger received with my units and the charger purchased from Apple. The Apple produced charger is the one on top, the fake is the one on the bottom. I also want to add that this in NO WAY should deter anyone from picking up one of the Amazon Renewed Apple MacBook Pro units - they are, like I said SOLID machines that work very well and are clean as a whistle! Even with purchasing a separate Apple charger, these two machines were a VERY GOOD BUY for the money!! ... show more

  • like new product
Capacity: 13" 2.9GHz / 16GB Memory / 512GB Soli...
Bought the 13 in 2.9ghz 16gb 512 ssd. Product came within a week across the country during xmas/New Years, which was quick. Packaged well. I wanted the ports, and the better keyboard, and I know Apple has stopped making and selling these models on their site. No nicks, scratches or visible wear on the exterior shell. Keys all work, no sticking or ones that are hard to press. Screen is perfect, I couldn't find a blemish, even near the outer edges. I've had about five weeks now (since Jan 4th) and battery life has been what I would expect from a used MacBook that's already four years old. I've gotten 5 to 5 1/2 hrs out of it with average to moderate use. I typically go to the charger once it reaches 20 percent. The lowest it's gotten since I've had it is 13, so maybe it can get closer to six if you run it low. Battery cycle count out of box was at 471. It's 486 now. Out of the box, I used it consecutively for as many hours as I could to test it. I found using the Chess app drained the batter significantly quicker than any other thing I was doing on it. Like, every 90 seconds it was losing a percent. Anybody else have that happen while using chess? There's a 90 day limited warranty on returns, which gives you time to use it like you would to test it out. The price seems high initially. Which is what deterred me from going with Double Dex first. I bought a similar 2015 Mac from Mac Of All Trades in early December and it was about 300 dollars cheaper. Screen and keyboard were the same, there was a scuff mark on the exterior, but nothing major, the issue was it wouldn't charge. Cycle count said zero, which had me optimistic previous owner replaced battery. Magsafe worked on friends Mac, and amber light came on on mine, but no charge after all the troubleshooting and resets. Mac Of All Trades gave a credit to site and were great about a return when a similar model didn't pop up. Its a 14 day window on their returns, so I couldn't wait for one to be available as I need one for work. I came back to Double Dex because of the reviews and the warranty. It's tough to buy something used, that there's no pictures for and is already four years old, for a price close to a new one , but for me, I know mine has exceeded my expectations so far. No overheating of battery, no software issues, knock on wood no problems so far. So, if you're looking for a pre-butterfly keyboard Mac with all your favorite ports, and you have the means, based on my experience going with Double Dex is worth the money spent. ... show more

  • Battery / charger a little wonky
Capacity: 13" 2.9GHz / 16GB Memory / 512GB Soli...
The charger is very finicky, I have to get it just right in the outlet, usually have to prop it up with my backpack, not sure if that’s a known issue with Apple chargers (it came with Apple brand charger). Not sure what the original batter life was but it’s not long without being plugged in, MAYBE 3-4hrs on just battery power. Other than that I’m VERY happy with this. I opted to install Linux Ubuntu instead of keeping MAC OS, works great. There was a silver skin (big sticker) on it that I took off, not an issue but wasn’t expecting that. Was in surprisingly good shape, couple tiny tiny dents and scratches but not noticeable unless you’re looking for them. ... show more

  • Used, but like new.
Capacity: 13" 2.9GHz / 16GB Memory / 512GB Soli...
I was reticent to buy a refurbished computer via the Amazon Marketplace, but have been very happy with my purchase. It's the first laptop I've owned and runs faster than my slightly older Mac mini desktop. It arrived sooner than promised in generic packaging, but looked brand new out of the box -- no visible wear; screen, body, and keyboard in pristine condition. I was able to start it up, set it up and get my iCloud data transferred to it very quickly. All apps open quickly, run smoothly, and I've not had any issues running multiple apps at the same time. The battery cycle count was only around 450, so it still holds a good charge. And batteries for MacBooks are pretty inexpensive to replace, when that day comes. Of course, I'm still concerned that issues might occur after my 90-day warranty, but ... so far, so great! ... show more

  • MacBook is fine, Charger SUCKS!
Capacity: MF843LL/A 3.1GHz / 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD
The only thing I have disliked about this MacBook thus far has been the charger. I bought this charger December 2020, by May or June 2021 the charger sparks and won't even charge!
