Packable Rain Jacket That’s Surprisingly Legit (and the Reflective Zipper Is a Nice Touch) I grabbed this APEXUP packable rain jacket as a “throw it in the bag and forget about it until you need it” kind of layer, and it’s honestly better than I expected for the price. I’m in SoCal so I don’t need a heavy-duty shell most days, but I do want something that can handle surprise rain, wind, and those chilly early mornings (especially if I’m out walking or on an e-bike). What I like most is how lightweight and portable it is. It folds down small into the included bag (about the size of a compact umbrella), so it lives in my backpack without taking up space. When you actually put it on, it blocks wind well and feels like a true rain shell, not just a flimsy “emergency poncho” vibe. The waterproof zippers and sealed seams are the real selling point at this price. In regular rain and drizzle it keeps you dry, and the zippered pockets are great for keeping keys/phone from getting soaked (as long as you remember to zip them closed). The hood and hem adjustments are simple but effective, and I like that the cuffs have some stretch so it doesn’t feel like it’s flapping around. The reflective zipper/striping is also a nice safety detail. If you’re out in low light (early morning dog walk, bike commute, travel, etc.), it’s one of those features you don’t think about until you’re glad it’s there. A couple things to keep in mind: because it’s a lightweight shell, it can get a little clammy if you’re moving hard or wearing it a long time. It’s not a breathable, high-end technical jacket with a mesh liner, so if you’re hiking uphill or doing anything high output, expect some sweat build-up. Also, while it’s great for normal rain, I wouldn’t treat this as your “torrential storm for hours” jacket—lightweight packables usually have limits. Bottom line: For a budget-friendly, packable rain shell that blocks wind, handles everyday rain well, and has useful details like waterproof zips and reflective accents, this is an easy 5-star buy. Great to keep in the car, backpack, or travel bag for those “just in case” weather days. ... show more

Just purchased this rain jacket to use as a cycling jacket on my moped. This spring has been cool and wet and this jacket is just the thing I needed. Material is lightweight but sturdy enough for this type of jacket and waterproofing is very good so far. Zippers are easy to use (I put some wax on the neck part) and are waterproof. Inside and outside pockets provide lots of storage space. I don't normally use the hood but it makes a great high collar on the back of my neck when I have the helmet on. I'm 6'1" - 185 lbs and purchase the XL size to get the sleeves long enough for riding. It fits really well; I think the L would have been much to small.
