I purchased this after doing some research about having very low and quiet audio from my condenser microphone. It turns out that even though the mic came with an XLR to 3.5" cable, most sound cards don't provide more than 3v-5v and even then it's not guaranteed. After connecting this power supply in-line, the audio levels are much better. I went from full increase to about a 50% increase, the mic now set a good 2 feet away from me and still being quite clear. There was a slight introduction of a very low level hiss, but that's easily taken care of with the noise suppression provided with my sound card. I like that is it simple to use, plug and play-one, power switch on the front. It seems to be fairly transparent in sound quality. If does seem to have a long (I'm not sure of the correct term-) electrical storage capacity. Once you turn it off/power it down it continues to power the mic for a period of time. If you don't want any clicks/pops or shorts in the mic or interface/device it's attached to, power that down or wait for the power light on the power supply to fade out, and let the power dissipate. ... show more

I did check the voltage of the input connection using a voltage meter. it was around 47.6 (nearly 48V) which is acceptable. But I must say if you are planning to buy this make sure the adapter is suitable for your region before purchasing. I didn't and had to buy a step-down transformer. the adapter input is 110V (AC). The adapter output is 18V (AC) and 350mA. I could have bought a normal adapter instead of a transformer. but I couldn't find an adapter that outputs AC current. as for the polarity, it's center-positive. i meant to use this to power up a condenser microphone and then connect it to my PC. at first, after plugging in my condenser microphone I couldn't hear a thing. i thought that maybe my microphone was defective. but after installing an Audio mixer software and manipulating the gain. my Voice is Clear and Well heard. i didn't encounter any buzzing sound like most of the people in the comment section. i think the buzzing sound issue might be related to loose connections or a bad audio jack. I used this product to connect my condenser mic which needs a power supply to activate the sound module inside the mic. This is a single channel unit with no volume control. However it is compact and powerful enough to work well with my mixer and instrument combination. Good bang for your buck!

Photos are a bit misleading (looks like aluminum with cooling fins, but it's really constructed of plastic) but this does the job. I play in a bluegrass band that performs around a single mic with a couple of other mics for instrument fills. We keep this in our bag as a backup in case something goes wrong with our mixer at a gig, or if we're playing an event with weird logistics and are asked to set up in more than one location. We can just run a single mic into this unit for phantom power and then directly into a powered speaker. Is this a substitute for a good mixer with EQ? Nope. But it can absolutely save your bacon in a pinch. ... show more
