Filters are for a AOSmith water softener prefilter set up. I have to change the filter when it is clogged and this one works well for us.

The filter works great. For our well, it needs to be replaced about every three months. The o-ring is tricky to hold in place as you screw the filter back in. I used a little vegetable oil on the o-ring to keep it in place and help slide in. Caution, don't over tighten. I will sign up for subscription replacement. ... show more

    • No Rubber Top/Bottom Grommets To Seal The Filter In The Housing
This filter is exactly the same length as the AO Smith 4.5"x10" 25 Micron Sediment Water Filter Replacement Cartridge, however, the top and bottom are solid hard plastic with centered slightly raised surfaces. There are no top/bottom rubber grommets to seal the filter within the housing to prevent backflow. Before installing, I called AO Smith and specifically asked if this filter would work in the filter housing already installed. I was told it was a direct replacement. It fit within the filter housing, and after installing, there seemed a noticeable absence of sediment, but only for about a week or so. I'm switching back to the AO Smith 25 micron filter with the rubber grommets because I had better results concerning the amount/frequency of sediment detectable in the water. ... show more
