I've always wanted one of these for our woodstove and finally decided to try one. I've paid attention to ones I've seen at other peoples houses over the last 10-15 years or so, so I'll use that as a comparison. Pros: - Starts turning at a very low temp: I know some of the early (high priced ones) were well made but didn't turn the fan until 4-500 degrees F. This one starts at about 150 or so according to my stovetop thermometer, and as soon as it starts it turns at a useful rate. - Low cost: it used to be these ran $70-180, times have changed but you do get what you pay for (see below). - Totally silent: no noise from this thing - Fun to watch: everyone thinks it is amazing the first time they see it Cons: - Fan blade has a wobble: This whole principle works off a tiny variance in heat, so they are turning the fan blade with a tiny amount of electricity generated. This is fine if everything is well done, but this unit has a small wobble to the fan blade (very thin shaft on it) so I'm sure this is robbing it of much of its potential. - Doesn't push much air: Hey its a free fan with no cords or issues or cost so I don't want to complain too much but even when the thing is spinning pretty fast you can hardly feel a breeze on your hand just a few inches away. It is moving air but not very much (maybe relates to last point).

I have a Little Buddy heater (not the regular Buddy) so this doesn't quite fit that, however, I thought this would be a great addition to the modifications I made to the heater to use in my truck tent in Wisconsin late fall weather. Without getting into too much detail on my setup, I have sheet metal cut and attached to a small structure which directs the heat from my heater head up to this fan sitting on top of it. Somewhat to my surprise this worked pretty well - most of the heat output from the heater goes straight into the fan which is enough to turn it on and circulate the heat around my tent vs the heat collecting just in one spot at the top of the tent and out. It certainly does not blow the air around like an electric fan, but it does provide more circulation than I anticipated. My in-laws have a wood-burning stove in their house and I'm planning on ordering another of these for them.

Not sure this thing moves much air. It can blow out a lighter on the windy side, but can't seem to move printer paper around. That said, as a whirly-gig it does the trick of reminding you the stove is hot, and worked as pictured on my buddy heater. Comes with a thermometer too, which is a nice to have. The deer antler radiator is a cute touch.

This is the smaller of my two fans. It does a nice job, in combination with the other of moving a surprising amount of air and it does it very quietly and with zero electrical expense. It also came with a stove thermostat and a mount for attaching it to a space heater. Very pleased.
