  • O.K., Ues I Bought this as a Joke Gift, but it was PERFECT!
I am sure the ant farm is a great educational resource, but alas that is not why I purchased it. You see, one of our Scouts on the last day of summer camp, had his tent invaded and overran by Fire ants! I mean these ants were everywhere! We ended up putting all his gear in plastic bags and closed them tightly! So, at out awards banquet, guess who got this ant farm as a gift? Now, this ant farm did not come with any ants, but instead with a coupon to purchase them. Thanks for your time in reading this. ... show more

  • Great for class room - update
I originally pressed trust these most super excited to use this with my class. However, after only a few short weeks, the condensation in the container got bad and our thing was overtaken by fruit flies, and our ants all died. The instructions tell you to put water in the sand however I am not sure this was a great idea. I purchased this for my classroom as my students are really hoping to watch ants this summer. It was a little smaller than I thought however, it’s perfect size to be on my desk or in a smaller area with no distraction. Sometimes smaller is better. I can’t wait to watch ants, make their tunnels and habitat with my students. ... show more

  • Disappointing Experience, Not Worth the Trouble
We were really excited about this ant farm as a fun, educational gift, but unfortunately, it fell short in several areas. While the concept is great, the execution is lacking. The biggest issue is that the kit does not include live ants, and obtaining them is far more complicated than the packaging suggests. We received no working coupon or helpful instructions. When we eventually managed to get ants (by purchasing them separately), they arrived sluggish and didn’t improve much, even with sugar water and care. My kids lost interest after just a few days because the ants were barely active and the farm itself offers very little space for the ants to move around or dig. You’ll also need to spend extra money on food and supplies (like a water dropper) which aren’t included, and tracking the ant shipment isn’t available unless you pay more. It ended up being more hassle than it was worth. Pros: Sturdy habitat that feels secure Informative booklet included Fun educational concept Cons: Live ants not included and hard to obtain No working coupon Requires additional purchases for food/supplies Little room for ants to move or dig Ants arrived sluggish; kids lost interest quickly Sadly, this turned out to be more of a letdown than a learning experience. I’d recommend looking for a more complete, user-friendly kit—especially if this is meant to be a gift. ... show more

  • it doesent include ants but its good for me
The media could not be loaded. it doesn't include ants so I thought it was perfect because I want to make an ant colony with a queen. And the queen is a harvester ant queen and you can attract a queen ant with a UV light at night so at night I could lure a queen ant out of the nest. And the queen ant and a worker or two have a place to start. You can see it in the photos. ... show more

  • Weird sand that collapses
We bought 2 of these ant farms and the included sand is weird and not like real sand. The ants can dig in it and creat tunnels but the tunnels will collapse a short time later. The ants have given up and seem to be living a sad life on the surface. The sand was wet before we put the ants in.

  • Great Exploration of Ant Life
I can highly recommend that everyone have an ant farm. Simple to set up and watch the ants as they work. Many ants die after a few days but you do get to see them in action and watch for progress. It is small and lightweight so portable and comes with interesting facts about ant life.
