  • Took the Plunge
Style: Cooker
I was on the fence for quite a while until family convinced me to get one. First test was a NY steak. Absolute heaven. Tender, juicy and just the right doneness. Second test was a pork tenderloin. Another winner! Hubby couldn't get enough of the tender meat (low and slow.) True test was a center round cut for deli style roast beef. It took a day, but it's perfectly done medium rare. Just had to sear it, refrigerate it, then slice thin with our meat slicer. Better than the deli counter roast beef and it's half the cost. I'm sold on sous vide, and Anova has really surprised me with the Pro version and the app. Well deserved five stars from me. ... show more

  • Fantastic-- the app and it work well together
Style: Cooker
I got tired of guessing how to cook especially with fish. I ended up buying this for the iPhone app integration and wasn't annoyed by anything. It is easy to use, easy to clean and smooth on execution. There is a beep at the start and a beep at the end. If I miss either, the app tells me what is up. I can adjust temperature and time as needed. I can also read the display like the app. Multiple feedback for the win. The only annoying aspect is I went without a vacuum sealer and instead push as much air out of a ziploc. To reduce the chances of outside heated exposure, I switched to using 135 or higher temperatures. I may change back as my knowledge and understanding improves. ... show more

  • Touch Pad Not Easy To Use
Style: Cooker
This is my first use of my new ANOVA Pro. Out of the box and first plug in I had no problem with the touch screen. I changed the target temperature and set cooking time and stopped and started the cooking process. I had already installed the app on my phone. I selected the Pro model to connect and went through the WiFi connection. All was working great. Then the app told me to run the update of the firmware, for the device itself. When this was finished the app, on my phone, went to the Pairing screen and asked me to hold the Target Temperature button for three seconds to get the code. Well, this is where it all went wrong. The only button on the touch screen that would respond was the +. Nothing else. I stayed with it and held down random button combinations that produced various results. The WiFi light was not lit at this time. The plus sign button was the only button I could get to respond. Sometimes the current temp button would acknowledge being touched but that doesn't do anything. I ended up using the + button to take the temp as high as it could. At one point the minus button responded but only once dropping the temp .1 degrees. That gave me hope that I could get it to work. I did uninstall the app and re-installed the app. This did not take me back to the beginning of the setup. I even wet my fingers to assist with the touch. As a last ditch attempt I held all six buttons at the same time. For most of my button pushing during this troubleshooting phase I would hold the buttons longer and longer. After or during or at some point, the target temperature button responded in a different way. It responded like I had selected it, kind of like it is supposed to do. Anyway, I held it down, by itself - no other buttons, and the display finally gave the the pairing code. I entered it into the phone app. The device paired with my phone. Then the app walked me through the WiFi connection, again. I was able to change it back to Fahrenheit with the app. The firmware changed the Fahrenheit to Celsius. Now I am cooking my first steak. Sure that was frustrating. I wish they would add a pin size reset button just bellow the touch screen. That would help. But I'm happy with the device as long as it continues to work. I'm more than willing to give it a go. This thing is built beautifully. I hope it holds up. It sure heated up the water fast, 10 to 11 qts from 90 degrees to 130 in 10 minutes. I'll add to this review in a month or two if all goes well. ... show more

  • Solid after first test
Style: Cooker
Note: I technically bought mine "used" for under $200 but the unit appeared to be brand new and was in perfect condition when I received it. The Pros are that Anova is a huge name in the world of Souse Vide and this unit is well built with metal parts and a high-wattage heating element that can tackle just about anything you throw at it. I gave it a test run and it heated about 6 gallons of water from ~60F to 160F in under an hour and I verified that it held the set temperature very accurately. In its basic form it's very easy to use as well, and the clamp provides a good attachment mechanism to secure the circulator in place. Things I have not tested: WiFi since I don't care about it and have no intention of ever using it. I prefer manual control and that works fine [WiFi is *not* necessary for using this thing out of the box], but check other reviews for WiFi pros/cons. My only minor con here is that the while the clamp arm makes it easy to attach the Anova to most containers, it tends to ride high in the container, meaning that you have to put a whole lot of water into the container to meet the minimum fill level for it to operate. For example, I have a regular 28qt Coleman cooler that I like to use for a lot of my cooks and I have an older Sansaire sous vide circulator that stands upright in the bottom of the cooler. I need to put in at least twice the water to get to the minimum fill level for the Anova compared to even the maximum amount of water that I can use with the Sansaire, and there's plenty of water in the cooler for all of my cooks using the Sansaire. Apparently Anova makes a special base for the regular circulator that allows it to stand up in the water bath to solve this problem, but ironically this base does *not* work with the higher-end Anova Pro since the end-cap of the Anova Pro tube is a non-removable metal instead of a threaded plastic cap of the plain Anova. It's certainly not a show-stopper but it is something to consider when planning how you want to use this unit. ... show more

  • Cooks to perfection
Style: Cooker
I bought this ad a birthday gift for my dad since he is a sous chef and he really wanted a sous vide cooker. I didn’t know about it and after seeing him use it this thing is amazing. You set the temperature, place it in water and let it cook your food to perfection. You must know the temperature needed to cook your food to how you want it. I love it, because I like to to eat medium rare steak and this cooker will always get it perfectly. No more no less 😋 ... show more
