  • Finally a quality Head Unit
2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GM12S-U: So far, so good. I used this to replace a proprietary HU (Rosen GM1210-Carshow). It was OK, but nowhere as nice or capable as this one. It cost 4 times as much as well. The install started out a bit overwhelming with all the connectors and wires that plug into the back. However, just by plugging the connectors in the back of the radio completes almost all the connections you need to make. The speakers and everything run through those connections. Most of the extra AV connectors are not used for a normal install. Just the ones for front and back cameras if you choose to hook them up. Running wires for the GPS, microphone and dash cam are a bit time consuming but easy to do. The speaker for doors and blinker sounds does need dampening. Way too loud, but a bit of electricians tape that covers about 75% of it works well. My door chime is not too loud now but my blinker sounds are louder than before which is a God send. I won't piss off people behind me any more after forgetting to turn off my blinker. I have everything working on mine and the display and most of the apps configured for my preference now. Everything seems to be functioning fine. The unit boots super fast, the backup camera is ready in seconds after starting the truck. My biggest learning curve now is getting used to Android Auto and how that works. It is really a cool system to be able to do mostly everything on the HU that normally could only be done on my phone. Navigation, audio apps, etc.... all work on the HU with Android Auto. I get in the truck turn it on and within about 5-10 seconds Android auto takes over and displays the nav and either Iheart radio or XM radio in split screen and begins playing. I did have one minor issue but it seems to no longer be a problem. I went out to start HU to do some configuring on it and it did not boot. No display, but it was at night and control buttons on the bottom edge lit up. I tried tapping them with no response. I tried tapping different places on the screen with no response. I shut the truck off and opened the door to make the unit shut down. When I restarted, I got the same problem. I tried several times and it would not fully boot. I came in an messaged Tech support. That was two days ago and other than an acknowledgement that they got my inquiry, I have not heard back about the problem. Anyway, I came back in and googled the problem and one suggestion was to put a paper clip in the RST (Reset) hole and hold it down for ten seconds. I did that and it rebooted fine. It happened later on and I put the paper clip back in and it did not reboot but just continued to boot almost immediatedly. Since then, I have cycled the unit many times with no more issues. So, I am going to ding customer service for not responding after two days....who knows if they ever will at this point. I read several reviews where they were very responsive and some not so much. But, bottom line is that other than that, I didn't need any hand holding to get it up and running. I do suggest the dash cam if you buy this unit. I also VERY HIGHLY suggest the backup camera. I used my existing back up camera and it hooked up just fine. If you are using a back up camera that displays guide lines, I suggest you turn them off however you do that with your existing camera. This head unit displays its own grid lines and you don't need two sets. I think the camera that comes with this head unit does not natively display grid lines so it isn't an issue. I also got the OBDII scanner and installed it. I played with it for a few minutes and it worked good. It is going to be nice to configure the Torque App to display the gauges that I am interested in most.. Oh, one more thing, my FM reception seems quite good, speakers sound great, but I get almost no AM reception. I don't live near any cities, but it didn't want to pick up any stations on a scan and the ones I normally can at least get partially were very weak or out completely. I like talk radio, so I guess I will just have to use my Iheart and SXM apps via Android Auto. This unit does not have an XM antenna and is NOT compatible with regular XM reception. Only through the SXM app over the phone. Hopefully the black screen issue was a glitch and won't become a problem. If things change, I will come back to update, but after a few days and some testing, I think I am going to be quite happy. 4.5/5 ... show more

  • Plug-n-play mostly.
I have had several Android decks and none of them were as advanced as this one, nor were they specifically made to fit in place of the original OEM stereo. There are pluses and minuses to this deck. Pluses: Large HD touchscreen Many network connection options Sounds good, but, see minuses Mounts in place, but, see minuses Steering wheel controls work OEM camera works without installing the one that came with it OEM GPS antenna works if you buy a third party antenna wire adapter Fakra Z Male to SMA Male Cable - I got it on Amazon Can plug in usb hard drive for video on the go, which also feeds to the existing OEM video screen on the ceiling Netflix and some other video apps work as well, but, see minuses Apple CarPlay does work, but, see minuses Minuses The CAN box does not properly disperse the rear audio which makes the volume in the rear lower than it should be, nor does the fader control work for the rear speakers. There is sound but it is compromised a bit There is vastly different volume when switching between some sources. I/E between radio and CarPlay, etc. Overall, the system is laggy when going into video app’s especially. Some video apps don’t work, such as HBO Max. The app installs and you can see the content, but it won’t play. Only a black screen when pressing the play button. The screen mirror function does not work with my iPhone. It seems like it wants to work but it doesn’t. I have found no way to rearrange the home screen layout to get rid of the icons I don’t use as much. There is no way that I’ve found to limit the brightness of the panel leds which would be a great option. It fits into place but it causes the top of the trim panel to bow out a bit. I feel this deck should have 4GB RAM NOT 2GB, and an OCTACORE processor. I may return this deck to get one with a better processor, but then the same Plug-n-play options may not apply. ... show more

  • Junk
Absolute overrated garbage. Sounds quality is worse than stock, your music cuts in and out all the time using apple carplay, and the lowest volume level is way too loud it’s ridiculous. Everything about this radio is half @ssed it’s way worse than what everyone makes it up to be. Don’t cheap out on your radio and buy this junk, you will be disappointed. ... show more
Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2023 by Arrived Saturday morning and as of Sunday night I can say it’s pretty blown out, but for 10 bucks you can get the best piece around however if your anything like me you’ll likely have it basically destroyed by the end of the weekend.

  • Great for the price
5 star quality for the price of $300, also through the seller if you email them you get a backup camera, dash cam and Bluetooth OBD2 scanner that communicated with the radio itself so it doubles as a monitor for your vehicle temps and speeds for $2.50 each at 95% off. Due to the price, some of the functions aren’t exactly streamlined, HOWEVER, if you read the users manual you can do basically whatever you want to this radio. Anyone complaining about a function in these reviews appears as though they may not have read the manual at ALL before making a bad review. Installation was the definition of plug and play for me. Being only a 2gb system, there are moments when it lags a bit but I will repeat, $300 radio that has Bluetooth, CarPlay and looks like a $700 radio. As long as you aren’t trying to play games on it it is an amazing radio. Almost a week in so far and I love how it works, love the functionality and am still learning features of it even today. Crazy good radio for a crazy good price. Update after having it a while: still works great and only issue I’ve had was caused by myself not routing wires right so I pinched and ruined the CarPlay cable. Looking to get a replacement soon but still a great radio ... show more
