  • Transom mount and tiller are cheaply made and break,
The Good The motor itself is great so far. Though the instructions were kinda vaguely written, and the pictures were hard to see, I was still able to get it together fairly easily. The throttle was a little troublesome to get it to seat properly but otherwise no serious issues. The product itself is pretty well bit with galvinized hardware, thick metal tubing for the shaft housing and tiller, and think plastic for the gaurd. When i Gassed it up for the first time literally 2 pulls (1 full choke and 1 open) and it fired up like nothing. I am running a break in period which i start out with 10 minutes on, and 10 minutes cool off at idle, which i did 3 times. I'm also using engineered gas(no ethanol, much better for seals) with the mix at 25:1. From there i just did my first long run out at 3/4 throttle for probably 3 hours. Follow recommendations on proper break in for motors on a side note as you extend your lifetime and performance. At 3/4 throttle with my 17 ft aluminum canoe, and my buddy in the front we were doing about 5 knots against the wind, and 6 knots with it. Which for its size aint bad at all. The Bad Its not really clear where to order replacement parts for it. I have posted a question hear asking about it.(Specifically I want to order a spare prop) Also the company thats shipped it are terrible at their jobs. I mean it seriously terrible lol. The package was damaged, with exploded styra-foam in pretty much everything. Also all the hardware was literally all over the place in the box. Thankfully the only damage to the motor itself was some scuffing of the plastic housing. I recommend the company finds a better way to ship in the future. Finally again the instructions themselves were not fairly useful with hard to discern pictures, and instructions that were not very useful. The Ugly: The tiller and transom mount are some kind of cheap graphine. tiller broke off on me along with the motor pin, Overall So far negatives aside, I'm pretty damn happy with the purchase. Starts on 1 pull consistently, and pushes pretty damn hard for its size. Will bring overall rating to 5 star if company provides me with a proper place for replacement parts like the propellar. ... show more

  • Helps to have mechanical experience to assemble, otherwise a fine product.
Arrive well packaged, all the parts were present and easily recognizable. The tiller handle bracket was mounted upside down so the handle swung down instead of up. Easy to reverse. Mounting the throttle cable required removal of the adjuster base that came on the engine, as there was already one on the cable. It shows it removed in the video but no mention in the instructions. A lot easier to assemble if you mount the motor on the boat or a sawhorse to assemble. Got it together and added fuel mix and pressed the primer bulb a few times choked it and it started on the second pull. Ran fine with no issues. The lower unit comes already filled with grease and requires no maintenance. Plan to use it to power my 10" Pelican boat. Will follow up. ... show more

  • Certainly not "heavy duty"
This is basically a 2 stroke weed eater motor mounted on a outboard frame. The gear tolerance on the lower unit is poor so I am not certain how long this will last. The motor runs well but like any 2 stroke, it spits 2 stroke oil and smokes to some degree. NOTE: It comes without lubricant in the lower unit, at least the one I got did not have any. This should be filled half way with gear oil (NOT filled) for lubrication despite what the seller may tell you. No lubricant over running gears under load.... well you can figure what the eventual outcome will probably be. The other issue you may face is if you hit something under water. There is no give so the impact will transfer to the mounting bracket that is not well made or probably strong enough to survive such an incident. The shaft from the motor to the lower unit is rather long for a dingy or low sitting transom. So, in a shallow, you will probably hit the bottom at some point. One should take care not to do so at any speed. ... show more

  • Starter Pull Rope is shoddy, tiller handle cheaply made - broke on first trip to the water.
I'm extremely disappointed. This is very difficult to start due to the starter rope recoiling when you barely pull it 6 to 8 inches. It's like it gets stuck for about 4 pulls then frees up and finally starts. But the recoil is horrible to the point that the rope handle slipped from my hand and broke the air filter housing. I guess it's true you get what you pay for. I don't even know how to contact the seller or manufacturer. It didn't come with any certificate of origin so I'm not even sure I can get it registered in Texas. The instructions are inadequate. Other than that once you miraculously get it started it runs great. It's just that pull rope assembly that makes it not worth the money. Update: Seller was willing to send another starter. But then disappeared when I requested a refund due to the tiller handle breaking on my first outing. I had to file a claim with Amazon. Update 2: Amazon was quick with the claim and issued a refund before the seller contacted me. To add insult to injury when they did finally respond to my return request, it was with instructions that include a label that says, "Postage due". They want me to pay to ship this piece of crap back to them. ... show more

  • Good Motor For The Price
Good motor. Some light assembly required. I'm in a 10 foot inflatable with one more adult. I weigh about 180 he weighs about 160 and with full gear on board we get about 5 mph with the current, 3 mph going against. For the money it's surprisingly good. Wish the fuel tank could be bigger and less noisy but overall does the job. ... show more

  • Has it's problems
There was no spark, it would not start. I am pretty mechanically inclined, so I took it all apart, there was a wire loose, not really that big a deal if you know what you're doing. I fixed it, it starts up great, runs great. Very loud, but that is expected due to being air cooled. After 1 day on the boat at the lake, I noticed the mount was cracked, the motor was barely hanging on to the boat. I am not sure how it happened, i don't see how it could be my fault, but honestly i don't know. It shouldn't have broken like that on the first day in my opinion. I am now going to have to get that welded back together. I'm a very reasonable guy. I tried contacting seller but they never replied, I gave them 4 days to reply before writing any kind of review. ... show more
