This is the first reel like this I have ever owned; I have always ice fished with the standard spinner reel. Let me say that this reel makes a real difference. With a simple pull of the trigger, the lure drops straight down into the hole to the depth you want. Because of the design of the reel, the line does not twist, so that it is always straight and sensitive to bites. The drag is simple to use and strong. An odd note, the instructions state that if you want to use this reel in the winter to contact the manufacture because it is sent with summer lubricants. This is odd because it is advertised as an Ice Fishing Reel. Overall, I really like this reel.

This in-line reel keeps the line from being twisted. The trigger allows the lure to drop straight down. You do not have to manually peel off line to position the lure in the water column. This is particularly suitable for ice fishing. Solid construction.

I have purchased dozens of reels over the years for ice fishing. This style of reel is really nice because its a level wind reel - which means it doesn't twist your line like spinning reels do. The level wind reels let the line out in a straight line - which helps you detect the lightest bites - especially when using really light weight lures/bait. Its a really easy design which is what you want when its really cold. The spool comes of easily if needed - and the drag feels very smooth - and lots of adjustability - the 'trigger' release is really easy to use - even with heavy gloves on. You simply hold the trigger and the line releases from the reel, then let go of the trigger and the line stops. Makes it really easy to adjust your depth while fishing. The overall build quality of this reel seems very good - and it really is silky smooth. It has the anti-reverse spool means you get instant hookup when you begin to reel. Very happy so far with this reel. If you haven't tried this style of reel for ice fishing - I highly recommend you do - you won't go back to spinning reels.

I like it so far. The cast aluminum construction gives it a clean appearance and is not filled with cheap plastic parts. The retrieve is smooth. I was using a mono line with a slight memory and it jumped the spool, making a mess. I would suggest a braided line. The brake adjusts enough to give a slower drop to jigging raps and heavier jigs. The reel looks sharp. The spool seems to have a little play, but the reel as a while is solid and operates as I would have hoped. If you want to try a non-junk in-line reel, this is a good option.

This reel has a nice feel with smooth action. It's quiet and has a sharp, sleek look to it. It's solid and seems to be constructed and machined with high quality in mind. I've been ice fishing for years and this seems to meet all of my expectations. Unfortunately, the water has not frozen over yet so I can't give any information on the action with a fish on the line. If I run into any issues, I will update this accordingly. From what I've seen and felt, along with years of experience, this appears to be a high quality reel and a fair value. I'm ready for some hard water so I can put this to good use!

This is my first inline reel so I admittedly don't have a lot to compare it to, but I've been fishing my whole life and I know a thing or two about reels. This reel body is matte black while the spool and handle are more gloss, it's a sharp looking reel. The handle reels effortlessly and the spool is butter smooth when the trigger is pulled. It's pretty small in size, as most ice fishing gear is, but the spool will hold more than enough light line for my needs. The reel seat is nice and low profile so it should match up with just about any ice rod you have. This reel is a good value for anyone like me who wants to give inline reels a shot this season.

This reel works perfectly. Just fit and finish are a little less than I'd hoped for. Slightly gritty in the handle, but the drop is smooth. Drag is OK. Handles are comfortable. Positioning of release handle is in a good position and is out of the way. The inline reels really help with stopping line twist. If you want a decent reel at a good price point this may be the one. Recommend for panfish or small trout in 2-15ft of water.
