  • Super Sturdy Greenhouse for the Money
Style: 8x10x7.5FT Material Type: 6mm PC Panels
My five-star rating is for the finished product, which is an awesome greenhouse for the money. I feel this unit deserves serious consideration by anyone looking for a greenhouse kit. But as other reviewers have noted, assembly is difficult at best, and some instructions and parts could use improvement. Although I had moments of serious frustration during assembly, I (a 50-year old woman) managed to do it myself over the course of three days, not counting the labor that went into preparing a level foundation. I researched greenhouse kits for over a year before settling on this one as a lower-cost "trial" option and, having read hundreds of greenhouse reviews, I don't think any greenhouse is easy to assemble. Pros: * SUPER STURDY. Every single panel and joint in this greenhouse is cross-braced. Compare that to other greenhouses (including ones that cost several times what this does) where there is just bracing on the corner panels. Yes, it's a lot of extra work to put these in place, but by the time you get to that point in the process, you're in the home stretch. When it is windy outside and I am in my greenhouse, it is as quiet and still as when I am in my house. * QUALITY MATERIALS. There are over 500 parts in this kit and (not counting the polycarbonate panels) only 30 or so are plastic. The polycarbonate is sturdy and uv-coated on one side. The base pieces are really heavy and straight and have mitered corners that make squaring up the foundation easy. * WELL-INSULATED. Without a heater, with doors closed overnight, greenhouse temp is, on average, 15 degrees warmer than outside temp. Plants are THRIVING inside, the biggest challenge is keeping them watered because they thought it was summer in February. * ATTRACTIVE. I've had several neighbors comment on how "cute" my greenhouse is. I do think it presents nicer than other polycarbonate greenhouses I've seen. * ROOMY. The actual measurements are 8 ft wide by 9.5 ft deep, but I have found this is more than enough room to store plants sufficient to fill a suburban backyard garden. In the summer, my inflatable hot tub will fit in here, too. * WELL-PACKAGED AND LABELED. Each side of the polycarbonate panels comes with protective plastic that is easy to remove. The metal parts are packaged well, too. There was only one dented piece and it was a cosmetic issue, not a functional one. * RESPONSIVE SELLER. I asked the seller for a digital copy of the instructions and they were very responsive in getting one to me. CONS: * This is HARD to assemble--moreso mentally than physically. You have to understand not only what you're doing on the current step but how it relates to steps down the road. If you struggle with assembling basic IKEA furniture, this project is not for you. * The polycarbonate is not sealed on the ends. I sealed each end with HVAC tape, but this appears to have been a huge waste of time as I can see moisture already seeping into the cells. * No extra hardware. I dropped a few of the main stainless steel nuts and bolts along the way and had to purchase additional ones from the hardware store (M6s, if you need it). * Too many steps covered in a single page in the manual, making the illustrations small and difficult to see important details, like which way a screw goes in. These should be spread out over several pages so the detail illustrations can be enlarged. * Cannot be screwed to a deck or other existing foundation. The only way to keep this grounded is to set the corner posts in concrete. * A few typos in the manual as to what type of screw is needed and how many. Fortunately, these don't happen until later in the assembly process where it's pretty clear it's a typo. * No online tutorials or other assembly helps, as there are with large brand greenhouses. TIPS: * Really read and understand the "language" of the manual before you start assembling anything. You will soon see there is a method to the madness. On each page, do step A, then B, then C. If more than that, do A1, then A2, then B1, and so forth. * Email the seller and ask for a digital copy of the manual. They will provide you a link to a HUGE file that is the version of the manual sent to the printers--the pages are out of order, but this is still a huge help in that it allows you to zoom in on the illustrations, etc. * Get a universal socket tool to hold the stainless steel screws in place as you tighten them on the handful of instances where they are not slid into a "slot" to hold them straight. * On the vertical wall supports, you will have to slide several screws into each slot for future use when you add bracing. Be sure to slide in the exact number that is specified. Then, as you are adding bracing, etc., you need to pay attention to "is this attached to the second or the third of the four screws I slid in here" to avoid redoing things in the future. I used blue painters' tape to tape "up" screws and hold them out of the way. ... show more

  • What a pain to assemble!
Style: 8x10x7.5FT Material Type: 6mm PC Panels
I am a good DIY'er! I make, buid, design many home, office, and work shop projects. The assembly manual is all photos, no written instructions. Even the video supplied by Amazon and on U-Tube have no verbal instructions. I specifically had a concrete slab poured for this greenhouse. Several panels had damaged corners, missing UV film, and were warped. Squaring the frame was a chore. Anchor with stakes if on ground, use concrete anchors if you have a slab. The roof panels hang too far, I had to loosen the entire upper frame to correct out-of square roof panels and metal guides. You may want to consider horizontal braces of some kind to add rigidity. The doors still don't fit properly! What a mess they are, they have to be perfect to slide. Ain't happening. I'm considering designing something that closes easier, that I can add latches and a lock of some kind. 6mm polycarbonate sheets are too thin. Even with the wall braces, it has alot of play. I sincerely doubt this unit will withstand 60 mile winds. You better seal with heavy duty exterior silicone, both inside and out, fit is terrible, every tab throws something out of alignment. My son and I worked over 8 hours on the 1st day! A week later, I'm still tweaking greenhouse. Recommendation, spend a little more. I'd return this piece of crap if I didn't have to disassemble and find boxes to ship back. My wife is extremely unhappy! She's afraid it's going to come down on her or completely blow apart when it gets windy. Good bye, Dorothy! Don't buy this, don't buy from Amerlife! Save yourself the grief, frustration, and anger!! ... show more

  • Fabulous greenhouse!
Style: 8x10x7.5FT Material Type: 6mm PC Panels
My tomato plants are thriving in this greenhouse. They have quadrupled in size. It appears to be sturdy, allows a lot of light, protects from wind and cold. Love the windows for when it get too hot. The only thing is it is not easy to assemble. Take it step by step. We had three people and it took two days to complete. But I think it's worth it. Very nice product. I love it. ... show more

  • Very sturdy, a bit tricky to assemble.
Style: 8x10x7.5FT Material Type: 6mm PC Panels
I built this mostly by myself in a weekend. I had an extra pair of hands here and there, which I highly recommend. This would be almost impossible for one person to build. The instructions are drawings, which are mostly self-explanatory. There are a few locations where extra bolts need to be installed in the framework ahead of time, so pay attention! Other than that, there were two main points of assembly that gave me particular difficulty: 1) The bar that fits above the doorway opening has slits cut into either end, allowing it to slide into place. This cut was too narrow on one end, and I had to open it up with a jigsaw. After that, it fit perfectly. 2) During final assembly there are long gutter pieces to install on either side. These gutters have metal tabs on the back that slide into metal channels on the greenhouse frame. The channel was too narrow, and it was impossible to fit the gutters properly. I found that by using a pry bar, large flathead screwdriver, or similar tool I could expand the channel slightly by prying on it. I had to do this an inch or two at a time, all the way across both sides. After widening the channel, I suggest lubricating it with some grease or petroleum jelly before sliding the gutters in. Once in place, don't expect them ever to come off again. Other than those difficulties, I really do like this greenhouse. It's sturdy and well-designed, and I expect many years of use. ... show more
