  • Flat flapper seal design is prone to leak.
Size: Chair Height Style: Round Pattern Name: Tank + Bowl + Seat + Wax Ring
I thought I was getting the best American made product. Hindsight (no pun!) shows up a design flaw that can cost plenty in water lost down the drain. the flat "piston" seal can easily leak, draining the tank to a level that gets refilled, and leaks again... repeat, until a good seal is found and installed. I bought the 1st replacement part, that came with the wrong instructions. The leak continued. I contacted American standard for the 2nd seal under warranty, still with the wrong instructions, but was given correct verbal instructions on the phone, and it eventually started sealing after another 2 weeks of leaking. I still don't trust it. There is a reason the old style "pig nose" was tapered. It seals better and is dependable. I won't buy this American Standard model fixture again. ... show more

  • Main valve leaks
I have 5 of the champion 4 with 4” valve. After 2 or 3 years the main valve gasket goes bad and they all leak. Be sure and use a AS brand valve gasket or the off brands will leak sooner. I have tried every trick I know to get them to stop leaking to no avail. Don’t overtighten the clam shell that holds the gasket or they will leak. Don’t turn it too loose or they will leak. Watch for the notches where the clam shell goes together every 90 degrees or they will leak. Drop the tank level 1-1/2” below the overflow and sometimes the leaks will stop. This is a very good toilet but the flush design is a bad design !! Good luck if you have one. Gary ... show more

  • Avoid Champion 4 Inch Flush Valves
Many people like myself have had slow leaks with the Champion 4 Inch flush valve. American Standard sent me new seals and that did not help. I bought a whole new flush value and the problem remained.
