  • Better packaging
Ours arrived with a shattered tank lid. Not surprisingly after seeing it was only covered by 1 layer of card board. Still waiting to see if the company will replace. Otherwise, it seems well made, easy to clean and install

  • I decided against installing it
After unboxing, I read the manual and literature, watched all the support videos, and decided against installing it. The big problem for me is that the flush valve is completely electronic, there is no option for manual flush. This is a major design flaw to me. If the battery is out, if there is a malfunctioning signal from the hands free sensor, an issue with the flush valve ... any number of issues could easily result in an out-of-order toilet, or worse yet, a flush valve that is stuck open resulting in a running toilet. People don't realize how much water is wasted with a running toilet. Just one day of a running toilet could cost $50-$100 in water. At a previous workplace, a running toilet went unreported and resulted in a $3,000 water bill that month. Further, I think it's dumb to put all those electronics in or near the water. They could easily have attached a small automated flush mechanism on the chain, for gosh sake. It doesn't need to be this complicated. A domestic toilet should really have two "backup" ways to flush if the automated mechanism goes out - first, the flush lever should work in both manual or electric modes. Second, you should be able to reach down into the tank and pull up the flush valve if the lever is broken. This has neither of those options. Also, the local hardware store doesn't have any of these parts. If there's a malfunction or replacement part needed, it could take days or weeks before I have a functioning toilet back. The house I wanted to install this only has one bathroom, and I just can't risk this. ... show more

  • 5 hour install, eventually worth every minute
OK, just to be clear, 3 of the 5 hours in my subject line were not American Standard's fault. I had to replace some stuff in my bathroom to make this work that required multiple trips to the hardware store and several YouTube videos. That said, AS isn't entirely blameless either. There were problems with the tank install that probably could've been avoided by making that section of the manual longer than 2 pages, with one full-page picture. The instructions start with the assumption that you've taken every piece apart and then tightened them and put them all back exactly where you found them, none of which is even implied in the manual. I kept having things go wrong, looking up a video, figuring out what was different in the video than my setup, and then tightening it down and trying again. The other problem I ran into was that the plunger on the flush mechanism opened whenever I turned the water supply on, so the tank wouldn't fill. Even when I filled it with outside water, as soon as the water was turned on, flussssshhhhh. If you have this problem, you can solve it by holding the backup switch in while you turn the water on, and then release it. Now that that's all out of the way, this toilet is awesome. A couple inches taller than normal, with nice clean lines and a classy look. The flush mechanism is quiet, the touchless part of it works flawlessly, and the soft-close lid is a nice touch. I appreciate the way the p-trap is hidden, although it did make screwing the base down a bit tricky, and the plastic plugs to hide the screws stand out against the porcelain sides like the bolts on Frankenstein's monster. Overall, I'm really happy with this toilet and glad we replaced our old one with it. It's a great upgrade that adds a bit of class to our guest powder room. ... show more

  • Clean look and love the touch less feature
Fairly easy install. The wing nuts were a little harder to tighten because you have to get your hands through the little hole on the side, but other than that, installation was pretty straight forward. You will need a wax ring as one is not included. We didn’t mount the motion sensor on the wall yet because we were afraid walking in front of the sensor would trigger the toilet and we have to walk past toilet to get into the shower. Luckily it’s not overly sensitive and I found you have to get fairly close to wave and activate it. So we will be mounting to the wall, but for now it’s sitting on top of the toilet. Lights up blue when it’s activated and flushes quickly. It hasnt had any issues flushing waste and the bowl has stayed very clean despite being used. The manual button on the side does have the little piece in the middle stick out, which I don’t see it doing that on the stock photo or the videos, but it doesn’t affect the toilet, just more an annoyance that it’s not flush. The toilet says white, but it’s not a true white. The toilet I replaced was much more white than this, this is more of an off white. Not a big deal, but again looks bright white or a true white in the pictures and video. I’m really liking this toilet and considering upgrading my kids toilet for the touch less features and clean look. I can’t speak to durability yet or how well it stays clean so I’ll update with any changes. ... show more
