  • Love the performance. Harder install.
Style: Left Hand Size: Elongated
Had new floors installed in two bathrooms so had to unmount both toilets. A good time to replace the last toilet I hate. The other toilets had already been replaced by the same American Standard Cadet-3 Concealed. Love the strong one flush. No more flush, plunger, flush cycles and gallons of wasted water. This toilet consistently handles business in one flush. Rated 4 of 5 stars because installation is a little harder than an open trap toilet. My floor installer was supposed to remove and install the toilets but he was not familiar with the design so I did it rather than allowing him to cut around the toilet. Also, a little cleaning issue which I mention at the end. Starting with the existing Cadet I opted not to separate the bowl and tank. Too much back strain. My teenage son assisted with lifting and aligning in a tight space. However, I installed the new unit on my own. Straining my back again while attempting to lift and set the new bowl, I had an idea. Use a short scrap of 2x6 wood stud from an unrelated project, to stage the toilet over the waste line. That worked and saved a lot of stress on my back while I aligned the bowl over the mounting bolts. Probably could have just let the front wrest on the floor but I was paranoid about compressing the wax ring unevenly. The toilet is awkward to align with the bolts over the waste line because the bolt ports are mostly concealed. However, I could get a tight peek at them through the two seat ports (on the new bowl) and side bolt ports. I also used painter's tape and a pencil line to mark the bolt locations on the floor and the side of toilet. Side note on the wax ring. I didn't like having one chance to set the bowl in a traditional wax ring or the mess of near misses from past experience. Therefore, I opted to use the Danco Perfect Seal wax ring on both toilets. The wax is enclosed on the top and a rubber gasket completes the seal with the toilet. Installation was much cleaner and forgiving. Like other reviews the seat is not traditional. Can't accommodate a traditional seat without uninstalling the bowl. I hesitated for a moment but then considered that in the 12+ years I've lived in my home I've never had to or even thought about changing a toilet seat. So, given all four of my toilets are relatively new it will not be an issue for some time hopefully. Wife loves the clean lines which is why we opted for a concealed trap. However, some nasty urine residue can slowly seep into the toilet seat mounting holes over time, I assume when the seat mount becomes loose and teenage boys are not accurate. Even with regular cleaning you wouldn't notice that the enclosed space is getting slowly soiled. I only noticed it after removing the older Cadet, installed a year ago, and then inspecting the back. Not an issue for a traditional open trap toilet. Nevertheless, it wasn't that bad considering the duration. An easy wipe. But my wife is OCD about cleaning so we will devise a cleaning tool and reach back there periodically. ... show more

  • Great skirted choice for the price
Style: Left Hand Size: Elongated
I had some difficulty installing this, but that was primarily due to my drain location more than anything. The toilet is great, and it handles most everything I throw at it with aplomb; so don't let the 1.6 gallon rating deter you. The power-scrub feature is nice, but it doesn't have a lot of power to actually scrub (all the power comes from a 'jet' that is at the base of the bowl -- pushing everything back into the drain. Still, this is better than no scrub at all which plagues my other toilet. The look is fantastic and I absolutely prefer the skirted base to the exposed ones. However, in my case the entire toilet sits a bit too far from the wall. I've heard other people say the same thing about this model, so you may want to look at the specification sheet from the american standard website to do some heavy calculations before buying. It doesn't necessarily look bad, but there is a risk that you could crack the porcelain if you have a habit of leaning on the back reservoir as it's held only by two bolts. As for the seat, it is great because of the slow close feature, but it is made of thin plastic. When I sit on the closed lid to wash my kids in the tub the seat will bend inward. The look of the seat is fine, but you can tell it's light plastic when you handle it or sit on it. Great price for a great look. Fully functional if you can get the wax ring install perfect (took me 2-3 tries to get it installed perfectly). I highly recommend using some non-wood shims to shore up the base before caulking the edge where it connects to the floor. ... show more

  • Where No One Has Gone Before UPDATED
Style: Left Hand Size: Elongated
It's an attractive toilet. It was finally installed in our bathroom being remodeled. I like that the traps were hidden. It'll be easier to clean. I hate reaching behind the toilet and it's hard to see that I've cleaned one with a visible trap. The contractor said he couldn't find the installation instructions (I must have removed them from the box because they were there), but he was able to figure it out and it looks properly installed. Feels solid. Seat and lid open and close properly. I was worried the contractor hadn't put the rough far enough from the wall, but he did. I'm glad it's a taller toilet and it is comfortable. The flush is fast and quiet and seems wimpy, but it's not. It has passed both the number one and number two tests. We almost purchased a dual flush toilet, but this one uses very little water. I was a little leery of ordering a toilet through Amazon, and almost ordered one from a hardware store, but I thought, why not? Not sure if I'll need to purchase a toilet in the future, but using Amazon worked out fine. UPDATE 13 AUG 2019—Developed a crack in the tank after only a year of use. It leaked of course. Thankfully I can order a replacement tank. I am disappointed because we didn’t drop the lid or abuse it in any way. I’ve never had a toilet break like this before. I don’t know if this is covered under warranty, but I suspect not. Will try to find out. It had been a good toilet until now. Dropped from 4 to 2 stars. ... show more

  • Very nice appearance.
Style: Left Hand Size: Elongated
Happy with this toilet bowl so far but you must hold down handle for 3 or 4 seconds to completely flush. Very quiet flush is a plus.

  • Great toilet - Needs maintenance if you have hard water
Style: Left Hand Size: Elongated
The toilet arrived intact. It was packed well with nothing broken. It took more time to install because of the concealed trap, but was still easy. I finally have found a toilet my kids cannot clog. Update after almost five years. This toilet began having a weak flush over the past 9 months. I finally followed the troubleshooting steps on the American Standard website. There are small holes around the rim of the bowl that will become clogged with mineral deposits if you have hard water. I used the end of a wire hanger to clean them, and the toilet now flushes like a jet engine again. ... show more
