We bought our home new 20 years ago, with American Standard toilets (this is relevant, I promise). One of the bathrooms gets substantially more use simply by nature of where it is, probably 6-8x more traffic. It's the one downstairs and just gets used more. The original trip lever broke after about 8-10 years and I've been replacing it with a big box store replacement every 8-10 months since. Different brands, all pretty much garbage. The OEM replacement has lasted just shy of 3 years (so far) with zero issues. It costs more than the "cheaper" replacement, but the quality far surpasses the junk at the hardware store. Just using the 3 years we've had the OEM back in the toilet we've broken even...and I don't have to replace it constantly. 4 x $5.98 = $23.90 vs 1 x $23.30 = $23.30 Simple enough that I can make the math work! Don't waste time on the Fluidmaster or other "cheaper" replacement parts...this one is worth buying from the manufacturer. ... show more

It’s insane that a $2 plastic item costs this much. It’s an easy install and looks ok (not completely flush on the outside of our American Standard tank), but I shake my head every time I’m in the bathroom and see this thing. Flushing money down the toilet!

    • This is the one to get!

We have the White Cadet toilet, Model #4112. This is the right product for that toilet! And at a great price. Just be sure to pick *white* as the color and make sure that the model # that shows up is 047192-0200A . Note: the picture unfortunately still shows the outside of the toilet and not the handle & lever themselves. The handle and lever are all white unlike the original (where the lever is black). Another reviewer ran into problems with, I believe, the Bone one. What happened in that case I do not know, but the white one is the right one for the white toilet! Just make sure when you order that you are looking at the right product and select the right color (the model # changes with the different colors). You should have NO problem picking the one that American Standard recommends (at least for the white)! If you have any concerns, just order from Amazon as you'll be able to return it if it's not the right one! But, you can rest assured it will be! We ordered two, just installed one, and it is working like a charm! We also decided that we will exercise a bit more care when flushing and not press the lever at its end. That will lead to the cracks that so many people get. Putting pressure nearer the pivot point should help. I'd also strongly recommend ordering 2 at once so that you have a spare. I'm subtracting one star provisionally as this seems to be the same plastic design as the original--something that American Standard needs to change--perhaps if they use thicker plastic, a slightly larger handle that wasn't hollowed out, or steel inside an enamel outer casing, they wouldn't have such problems! But, then, I'm not a toilet engineer, nor do I play one on TV! Update: A tip for those of you who are installing this. It's about the beaded chain (string of metal pearls! :-) ) that is connected to the float and attaches to the lever inside the toilet. You want to make sure that it snaps into place. You can use a little force to do that (just grip it so that you don't bent or break anything). Our first install we simply nestled it in there, thought it was in far, didn't use any real pressure-- and, as you would expect, after several flushes, it came off! Angle was at 30* way too much, it scraped the inside of the tank. I heated it with a heat gun and once it was soft enough I bent it to more like 15*. Now it's perfect. Other than that it does the job as it should.

Does the job but does not last. This is a special 30 degree offset toilet handle flusher. I could not find this item at my major home improvement centers. The price at the plumber supplier near me is considerably higher. I bought one as a backup.

Very happy with this purchase! Exact replacement for my American Standard 4061 toilet. The old one would stick every so often (causing toilet to run due to flapper not going all the way closed). The new one also seems to have more travel (i.e., the chain end starts out closer to the flapper) and its operation feels very smooth. ... show more
