I debated a bit between upgrading to a 13th gen intel, or this new AMD platform. Looked at all the benchmarks, and they are actually really close, with intel having a slight edge. In reality, you probably wouldn't be able to tell a difference in most scenarios. I decided to go with AM5 and the 7700x because it's a brand new platform and socket, which means that the future generations of AMD CPUs will be using this platform, and In a few years, I'll be able to upgrade to a newer gen CPU without having to change out my motherboard. (AM3 lasted over 6 years). I saw another reviewer complaining about the price of motherboards, but I got the new Asus Tuf gaming B650+ with DDR5 support for $220, which isn't bad at all. the X670 boards considerably more $$, but unless you are building a monster rig, you don't need one. The 650 boards just came out though, so that may be why. Also got a basic 240mm AIO water cooler, and all put together, inside my desk cabinet, I am seeing temps around 30-35c at idle, and around 35-45 doing desktop things like email and browsing the web. Fired up a game (shatterline), and max temp I saw was 82c. well below the 90-95c some people reported, but maybe that's for the 7900 cpus? the system feels great, and should last me quite some time with an upgrade path on the AM5 platform that still has a long way to go. for reference, I came from a 4th gen intel platform I originally built in like 2013 or so. so this is a pretty huge upgrade!

I'm very happy with this purchase. I can run multiple workloads and still have plenty compute available for other tasks. Using a 360mm AIO so it runs cool and stable. If you can get it at MSRP, buy it.

Overheating issues. Disassembled and put together again but no luck. Searched online and it seems the temp will be high by design with little/no room for overclocking. I don't want my CPU to reach 100C for Cinebench R23 ST 1983, MT 29300 when much cheaper i7 - 13700KF scores ST 2200 MT 31000 at 85C in leaked benchmarks. Also, it is not just the CPU, the motherboard cost is also way too high for AM5. Will be returning at get 13th gen. Hope that will be good for 5 years.
