  • AMD is not the fastest but they make the BEST, most elegant bang for the buck!
So I've been building professional workstations for 33yrs. now and I've always been utterly devoted to ideal, low cost, tough but powerful little systems... The last couple of years I've had more fun, produced better systems and have 99% client satisfaction with my A88XM based workstations with A10 processors, 8 - 16GB or DDR3 2400 and small, fast SSDs, running Win7 or Win10 (we'll pretend Win8 never existed for now). With this new A10-7860K (with a very nice, red themed heatpipe cooler), AMD has hit the sweet spot of roughly $100 for a sturdy Quad Core with a decent 8 core GPU built in with direct CPU to GPU interconnects (HSA - for future software evolution in the making...). For anyone who cares to know, here's what I do around this nice APU; Currently, using the Asus A88XM-E (with latest firmware!!!), this APU + 16GB of G.Skill DDR3 2133 or 2400 memory, generally set to 2133MHz in bios, APU clocked at 4GHz straight up + 120 - 512GB SSD (lots of good 500mbps read/write drives out there with 3yr warranty and 2million hr. MTBF rating)... This makes a wonderful, ultra tough, low cost workstation that just does everything really well whether Win7 or Win10 (we beautify & privatize both hugely and configure with every quality ability to be had for free). We also build a few of these with LinuxMint 17.3 x64 KDE for certain clients and these are stunningly fast, fun & tough! I know that some can wring more performance out of these but we shoot for maximum stable performance with a likely 10 yrs. of solid use life, then we buy back this hardware from clients (at their time interval) and replace with the current lines... AMD is not the fastest but they make the BEST, most elegant bang for the buck to be had! ... show more

  • This processor is a sturdy general use processor with integrated graphics
This processor is a sturdy general use processor with integrated graphics. I made the mistake of buying a discrete graphics A10 initially, so ran into some problems, but got everything working after purchasing this processor. The integrated graphics look great and work well with a 4k monitor. Most games work pretty well also, as long as you have a bit faster ram to back it up. For my build, I did two 8gb 2133 ddr3 sticks and I haven't seen any issues on any games so far. However, you might run into a bit of jumpiness for some of the more intensive games like GTA 5 or something. The general processing is very good with this APU. We did a bunch of large batch photo converting and didn't run into any issues. It went by fairly quickly and no overheating issues appeared. The fan that came with this processor also is pretty decent. It isn't huge, but it gets the job done and is pretty quiet most of the time. It was also a nice surprise when coming out as bright red from the box. This processor is great for any build that needs decent specs, but doesn't require a graphics card. This was the situation for the build I was working on, where it needed a smaller form factor with decent specs. The build went well and overall the processor performed extremely well. ... show more

  • Amazing for gamers on a mega budget!
I've been building budget builds to resell locally and these APUs are amazing. For $110, you have a CPU & GPU in one with a very low TDP that can play the vast majority of major PC titles that everyone enjoys at reasonable frame rates. I overclock these to 4.2 and they run Overwatch at 40FPS on medium settings. If you're just looking to play games like League, Minecraft, Dota, Blizzard titles, Counter Strike, and maybe something like Skyrim, this guy will run it. Now, it's important to overclock it a bit and couple it with fast RAM. And you have to set those settings in the BIOS. People are loving the fact that they can finally play PC games at a console price and I can make a few dollars at the same time. Thanks AMD! I look forward to the next gen APUs. ... show more

  • A very good cpu made by "little brother". You really shouldn't be surprised :-)
I'm used to Intel as that's what most of my customers want. I've used AMD in the past, and happily will do so more often now. Really depends on what the machine is used for. Intense cpu driven games (what, maybe 4 of them out there?!) are a thing of the past, but use Intel for those. For workstation applications, nothing is close to their Xeon, too. But for anyone else who wants to spend $200 to $400 less on their complete build, AMD has something that will work perfectly, this cpu no exception. The entire A series runs a lot cooler than their predecessors and are faster (as they should be). I like this one for everyday tasks, works perfectly. This was for one of my back up machines in case one of my crazy expensive Intel machine bottoms out...it's happened! I build computers for a living and ALWAYS have at least one AMD in my personal inventory, and am starting to sell quite a few more as more people understand what they're getting. I've used this one all day, every day for a week now (gaming, building, testing peripherals etc.) and it's great! It's also a $115 cpu...do the math :-) You could add that video card that really makes the difference with the money you save and be really happy! ... show more
