  • Excellent Product
I really like it for using an overhead lamp, it works great, no issues.

  • Versatile piece of equipment for lightweight applications
Although it is lightweight and could benefit from sturdier materials, I actually really like this stand. It's a pretty versatile extra stand that I can use for lightweight applications. I wouldn't put anything too heavy on it, however. It does come with a couple sandbags, which helps increase the sturdiness. If you're trying to mount anything particularly heavy, do so at your own risk. ... show more

  • Very useful. A little fussy to deploy.
The one thing I didn't care for about this item is that when you loosen the tube clamps, the tubes catch and resist when sliding. You can get past this by loosening the clamp a good deal more, but that takes time and sometimes one handed effort while you're supporting something with your other. I do not want to have to 'gap' the clamp to make room for the wobbly tube to freely slide. A slight release of tension should allow the tube to slide freely as needed. The stuff I like: It's a nice design, to be able to have a boom arm stand that can tuck the arm into the main tube when not used. Note, that means you do have to deploy the boom fully out of the stand to free its swing end. You'll need a little room for that. It's pretty strong and solid. All metal and screws. No plastic or rivets that I could see...Yes that means it's heavy, but this stand, its clamps and its legs are the sturdiest I've seen in this product/price class. The screw head is a dual ended, side clamped post insert. It has 1/4 and 3/8 screw ends. Just loosen its mount head and flip it around. As mentioned, the socket it inserts into is metal so it should last, and also the socket has the ability to accept that post either from the end, or from the side of the arm. This gives you more options for orienting whatever device you're supporting in relation to the angles of the arm and main post. Item to note: The swing arm mechanism is bulky. That's not a problem. Just calling it out. It does mean that certain configurations might require swinging one or more of the clamps on this stand around to clear the clamp screw handles from each other. I'm giving this one a full peak of five stars. For the low price, it is a tremendous offering. Sturdy, clever, feature rich. I so far haven't seen better. If the clamps and overall design were made of lighter metal with weight saving casting/milling, and the tolerances were more constant and smooth, this product would be entirely amazing. But it would have to cost a lot more and that would put it into a different arena against different competitors. If you need a stand like this, I feel you'll be quite happy with this one. ~Cheers! ... show more

  • Do not buy!
Absolutely garbage, just received this item in the mail, put a brand new soft box and studio light on it, first time using and the arm snapped and dropped my light and soft box, about 3.5-4.5lbs load.

  • Part c-stand, part light stand, part boom arm
I honestly love the combination of things going on here. It's not quite as stable as a c-stand, but WAY easier to swing up and down, and has a better counterweight system. I'd be lying if I said I'd never thrown some olympic weights on the back of a c-stand with a cheeseplate screwed on to secure it (My overhead camera is literally set up that way RIGHT NOW) but having a boom arm and light stand in one gives you a lot of that same functionality, but with the massive improvement of a dedicated counterweight system. It's the best of both worlds, at a discount no less. If you're looking at this and a C-stand, ask yourself if you REALLY need the c-stand, because this might fit the bill for less. ... show more

  • Light stand with a boom arm that does the job!
I reviewed this in May of 2023. This product can act as both a simple light stand and then if you extend the upper rods you're able to use the tilting feature and make it into a boom arm. As you would expect, if you extend the boom arm you might tip over the entire stand but this comes with sandbags (not filled) to be used as a counter weight. I used this with a lighter weight LED COB light with a lantern attached as well as a few smaller studio strobes without issue. The construction is good and I had confidence in it holding the lights I selected. Nothing too heavy but it did the job. Like almost everything at this price point, some compromises had to be made in order to keep the price low. There's some plastics on it that I'm not thrilled with but the stand construction is good. Generally a good pick at this price point. ... show more

  • Stable with great reach and flexibility
The AMBITFUL tripod boom was surprisingly good. Considering the very competitive price point, my expectations were moderate when I received the light stand. The robust construction, stability and potential applications of the tripod boom were very impressive. With a counterweight I am confident that it would easily support the 5 kg rated load. I deployed it indoors where my 9 foot ceiling seemed low, and the lightweight 43 inch reflector I hung from it didn't require a counterweight. The stand came with two sturdy sandbags, one with an Ambitful logo, the other with orange and black stripes. The lining and closure system on these sandbags is sturdy, but I try to avoid sand around camera gear, so I would probably use water bottles instead, but that is just a personal preference born of convenience. The center 'protractor' boom angle adjustment did require some tightening from the shaken loose condition it arrived in, but locked down tight once adjusted. The use of substantial metal castings at all the stress and adjustment points was appreciated, and although the t handles were plastic, they withstood being torqued aggressively without deformation. A big stand with big potential, I can confidently recommend the AMBITFUL tripod boom as an item that will exceed your expectations. ... show more
