  • This computer is fairly unuser freindly
I get that windows 10 is terrible and makes customization a pain, and that optimization is harder to do within the frame works of windows 10, and I'm not complaining about that. I am specifically complaining about two things. Firstly the forced use of mcafee, which I immediately disabled, yet still get notifications about every other day for no discernible reason. I don't know why so many manufacturers demand that mcafee is on their computers, as it not only fails as even a minor deterrent to computer virus-es, but also slows down your computer to a crawl, and is intrusive to boot. But technically this also isn't part of the computer. As an i5 with a 1050ti I wasn't expecting too terribly much with the computer, and for the most part it has excelled on that front. Granted I haven't bothered pushing it much, but still it does what I need it to, and is reasonably fast doing mundane tasks. So for the most part this computer is fine. However, no matter what I do, no matter what settings I change, it goes to sleep after a short amount of time. One that's not even consistent. Sometimes it's as short as 30 seconds, and other times I've measured it as long as 7 minutes. I have done everything, and at one point it seemed like it was working, but then, for no real reason it decided to once again go back to sleep the minute I took my hands off of the keyboard. Mind you, I'm not pirating anything, or even doing anything demanding that would over heat the computer. I'm not even using this computer for porn, so the idea that it's being over worked baffles me. In fact the only thing I am doing when it decides to do this is homework, which tends to have me stop using my keyboard to look something up on my phone, or in a book. I know what you're wondering, "why doesn't he just use the computer to look stuff up?" Well, this is where that 30 second screen off came into play. I was literally reading an article and stopped scrolling to write something down, and the screen went off and the computer went to sleep. I cannot tell you how annoying this is, especially when I'm pretty certain turning the computer on and off like this is not good for it. I will also point out that none of this is on battery, which is another issue, but while it is plugged in. The other issue is that occasionally the computer decides it's not plugged in. The outlet worked for literally everything else, but the computer, but the computer decided it wasn't plugged in. I first discovered this when DOOM dropped to 26 fps for no reason and wouldn't budge higher than 30 (another "feature" that seemingly can't be rectified".) Which, as you can imagine, was distracting to say the least. Overall, the computer has a nice design and form factor, and the keyboard is great, but it has some very weird software decisions, (which I'm 99% sure aren't windows 10 but I could be wrong). Also worth noting is that as of the time of me writing this, several laptop with 1060ti's have dropped to below this price, most of them with more RAM, an i7, a 1440p screen, or a 144hz screen, or more than one of those together. Again, for a midrange laptop, you could do worse, but I highly suggest looking for something better. ... show more

  • Comfortable keys and usable track pad
Style: i7-7700 | GTX 1050TI | SSD
MODEL: i7 7700HQ, 16GB RAM, Nvidia 1050Ti NOTE: *I live and work in the tropics where temperature can reach 40 degrees Celsius and my workplace/home doesn't have air conditioning, only electric fans. Average temp. of my environment is within 28-35 degrees Celsius. *I have had this laptop for 5 months now. REVIEW: * As a work laptop: Comfortable keys and usable track pad. Reasonable battery life (reach up to 6 hours with 3-4 tabs on Google, listening to music, with MS Word and MS Excel on, 30% screen brightness). Recharges from 5% to 90%+ around an hour. Sturdy build for its thin chassis. White LED back-lit keyboard is visible enough in low light (but not as bright as mechanical keyboard LEDs). Speakers are Bang & Olufsen which are ok quality (i.e. not garbled, a bit tinny like any other speaker when volume is maxed out) and loud enough for when you need audio in a presentation (conference rooms that seat 6 to 8 at a table). No problem multi-tasking, fast and responsive. --- I crunch numbers and do a lot of research work leading to multiple tabs/windows open at the same time. *As a gaming laptop: The aforementioned specs let me play titles like Witcher 3 with a mix of medium settings near 35-50fps (Hair works off), Overwatch at low settings at over 75fps but not so smooth since screen is 60hz (I have played on a 144hz monitor so playing between the two, I do notice my tracking is sluggish on the laptop). The performances I got may have been affected by thermal throttling (See Note). The laptop gets very hot after only 10 minutes of gaming. The need for a cooling pad is critical, if you can game in an air-conditioned room do it. If you have desk fans, direct it to your laptop. No exaggeration but a Hersheys kisses (still wrapped) I placed near the number pad became gooey from the heat generated. Overall: The price paid (about 1,200 USD) for a thin and relatively light gaming laptop with the i7, 16gb RAM, and 1050ti is worth it but major concern is getting the laptop to cool down when you game. It really needs help cooling down. ... show more
