UPDATE: after 3 days of wear, the thread in the front of the shoe that holds the rubber on the toe box has started coming undone on one of the shoes. INITIAL OBSERVATIONS: I like that they don’t have a weird logo that is highly visible. Don’t mind the logo inside the shoe, but I was disappointed to see an Amazon logo on the sole (bottom) of the shoe. Sizing is as expected. Pretty attractive looking besides the logo on the sole. The price point makes it a good option for when the kiddo’s worn out the name brand shoe in their size and you just gotta get them through the next few months before the inevitable growth spurt. ... show more

I grabbed these Amazon Essentials Kids' Lace-Up Sneakers in black for my active 5-year-old because they looked like a solid, affordable everyday shoe. At around $20, they're a good cheap option for school and play when you don't want to spend big on name brands. What I Like Classic look: Simple black color canvas with white rubber toe cap and sole. Goes with everything: jeans, shorts, uniforms. Unisex style works great for boys or girls. Comfort out of the box: Padded collar and insole felt cushy right away. My kid said they were comfy for all-day wear at school. True to size: Size 13 fit his usual 13 perfectly with a little growing room. Laces stay tied well. Lightweight: Easy for him to run and play without heavy clunky feel. Great price: Hard to beat for a basic sneaker that looks decent. The Big Problem Durability: After one bike ride around the neighborhood (maybe 30 minutes of normal pedaling and scuffing), the stitching at the toe started coming loose on both shoes. Threads pulling out where the canvas meets the rubber toe cap. Now after a week of light school use, the toes are fraying more and looking ragged. Not holding up like I hoped. Real-Life Kid Test School and playground: Fine for walking/recess, but any real activity (biking, climbing, kicking) accelerates the breakdown. If your kid is gentle on shoes, these might last a season. For rough-and-tumble kids, expect early retirement. Verdict They're a good cheap shoe for low-activity needs or as backups, but don't expect them to survive an active kid's lifestyle. The toe stitching issue is a dealbreaker for longevity. I'll stick to slightly pricier brands next time for better durability. If budget is tight and wear is light, they're worth a try. Just know what you're getting! ... show more
