  • Great Suitcase-Like Backpack
I wanted to buy a smallish backpack that was designed more like a suitcase than a traditional book bag and one with the capability to slip over the handle of my rolling carry-on case (which this one does both vertically and horizontally). This backpack met all of my specifications almost perfectly! The only thing I would change is having the zipper of the largest compartment go all the way around the bag so it could open up completely. This backpack is well-constructed and the grey color is a nice neutral that goes with anything. I really like the interior orange color as well since it makes things in the pockets stand out. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the zippers are built to accommodate locks and are made of metal so they'll last. There are also anchors sewn into the backpack that the zippers can be locked onto which is great Since I've always used a backpack as my underseat carry-on in the past, I don't anticipate this bag causing any problems when I use it in the same capacity, though I will update further when I can confirm for certain. ... show more

  • Not as functional as I hoped
Color: Grey Style: Overnight Pattern Name: Backpack
I bought this bag hoping to use it instead of a full sized carryon for short trips. For a night or two (or even three) a regular carryon is more bag than I need. This one, however, will not function like a “mini suitcase” as I hoped. The biggest issue is the way the main body of the bag is divided. Instead of one (relatively) large compartment occupying most of the volume of the bag (like in a suitcase), the space is split into two very narrow compartments of roughly equal size. The thick dividing panel between them fills a lot of space and has no obvious function other than to hold a tablet pocket. Additionally, this bag zips open on only two sides (top and one long side) not three like a suitcase. Overall, the design seriously limits the use of this bag for packing things you might want on an overnight trip- like clothes. It actually looks more like a backpack-style briefcase than an overnight bag. Also, the clips that attach the straps to the bottom of the bag are very thin, flimsy-looking plastic. On the plus side, the bag is sleek and attractive-looking, comfortable on the back (I’m 5’7”, for reference), and, other than the aforementioned cheap plastic clips, feels sturdy and well-made. It also has a gazillion pockets. For me, though, those pros don’t outweigh the poor design. I’ll be sending it back. ... show more

  • Overnight Design Just Misses The Mark
I ordered the AmazonBasics Slim Carry on bag--Overnight style, as well as the weekender style, in hopes of finding the perfect 'personal item' sized bag for the traveling I've been doing on discount airlines/tickets. The overnight more appropriately fits into measurement restrictions, so I was hopeful it would do the trick. Noteworthy features about the Overnight sized bag: -Overall, it has a sturdy structure and padded back. -There are lots of compartments. There is a small padded sleeve at the top that would work for sunglasses or a smart phone; another front small sleeve that would be good for boarding passes/travel docs; a front larger pocket with tons of individualized compartments that are zippered, etc. (more than I would know how to use quite frankly), another larger padded pocket that would work for a kindle/ipad (NOT laptop sized), a second main compartment that has a laptop sleeve (unpadded), and a final third compartment where you could put clothes, etc. -There is a water bottle sleeve that unzips to open up, which I was thrilled to find, since most bags I've looked at don't accommodate water bottles specifically. -The straps hide away in the back panel allowing for a sleek look; there is a reinforced handle at the top. There is no crossbody/messenger style option with this bag. There are two major points that made this bag impractical for my purposes: 1) the compartments only zip open on TWO sides. It does not have a suitcase like view, and therefore, staying organized if using this bag for clothes, etc. would be an issue. Packing cubes would help, but likely not solve the problem. 2) there is very little expandability/give to this bag. The last compartment which would be the primary area for clothing is about two inches deep, and the bottom side of the bag seems even less so. Consequently, it doesn't allow for much, and it also wouldn't fully use the under the seat space in a way that's useful, in my opinion. It's also worth noting that both models of this bag use plastic clips to attach the backpack strap that are have thin, rigid components. I was worried about how these would function, and in fact when I went to attach the straps of the weekender version, one clip broke the very first use. I see that as a notable issue with both versions of the bag, though I don't imagine I would be attaching/unattaching frequently. If you are considering the weekender bag over the overnight option, there are several differences I would point out. 1) the bag unzips on THREE sides, so is much more useful. 2) there are compression straps which will be useful in keeping the bag compact. 3) there is the option to wear this crossbody, messenger style. 4) there are two neoprene options that could work for laptop/reader devices, in lieu of some of the smaller padded pockets. 5) the water bottle unzip is smaller on this bag and less useful for water bottles because it doesn't unzip on the bottom. 6) I suspect it would be difficult to squish it under many airplane seats given it's size/rigidity. Finally, I'll note that the "green" is more of an aqua blue, as shown in the picture. The name is a bit misleading, but the stock photo isn't. ... show more

  • Great Quality bag and price
Color: Grey Style: Weekender Pattern Name: Backpack
I ordered this bag instead of the Ebags "weekender" and I'm so glad that I did. First of all, the price was $30 plus "cheaper" than the Ebag version and the quality is just as good if not better. I own the smaller Ebag version and I can tell you that the Amazon bag is just as good as far as the quality goes. My friend has the Ebag version and he stated that he wished his ebag weekender had the compression straps (which it doesn't.) This has all the nice pockets plus the water bottle side pocket and if you have a taller water bottle, the compression strap will help hold it in place. GREAT BAG AT A GREAT PRICE, you will not be sorry if you order this. I'll be using this for travel so I can pack my laptop, cables, plugs , batteries etc. plus a change of clothes. ... show more
