I’m giving this 5 stars despite having a few little nags, because it does what I bought it for, and does it well. I’m a delivery driver, so I spend a lot of time in my vehicle in a city, and also occasionally have a good amount of cash tips on me. I got this to hold all the cash I don’t immediately need, as well as my spare house keys, medication, credit cards, etc. while I’m out running deliveries, sometimes in sketchy parts of town, sometimes after the bars close. I’m not a super paranoid person, but a little peace of mind never hurt! The box itself feels very well built and solid, and the tumblers and locking mechanism feel durable as well. The one thing I did notice was that if anything is placed too close to the mechanism, the safe is almost impossible to lock. Scoot it away just an inch, it works perfectly. I could see this causing some serious frustration if you were to somehow get it locked this way, and then have it become stuck in the locked position. Just something to keep in mind. A complaint I’ve read is that the dials are too hard to read. This is true- you almost have to be looking at them straight on to read them. I honestly see this as a strength, because there’s definitely no chance that someone’s going to see the combination when you’re opening it unless they’re literally looking over your shoulder. The other issue that I find tone more neutral is that the foam on the inside of the top of the safe doesn’t stay put inside the housing, and almost always falls out when you open it. On the plus side, you can store stuff under the foam if you really want to, and with some adhesive backed Velcro, you can have it both ways! I will definitely be buying another one of these if I ever find myself in need of a second one!

I already had a similar lock box and needed another. This Amazon version was cheaper, so I thought "why not?" All I can say is wow, I did not expect it to be so much nicer than the $35 box I bought from another seller. Three big things: 1 the metal is clearly MUCH heavier that my other one, and it is noticeably stronger. 2, the lock is much higher quality, I mean the combination. On my other, it doesn't turn "up" so easy, so I have to turn the numbers "down" to get to the combo. On this one, the numbers turn very easy both directions. 3, the included cable is literally 2x as thick as the other box I have. on my other box, the part that secures inside the box is just a knot, whereas on this Amazon box, it is a steel "mushroom" that fits in the side of the box and doesn't take up much room. Oh, and the foam padding is much heavier duty. I am very please. Will NOT be returning this one!

Much higher quality than expected ! Heavy steel case, nice cable, combo unit very smooth. Decent foam inside. J frame, holster, flashlight and ammo...all fit securely.. Nice enough to buy a 2nd one. I have a similar case, half the quality as this. Sure cant beat the price

The box is very well made of heavy duty sheet steel, and has ample space for my gun. The lock combination is easy to program but I found that when I closed the case the locking piece would not mate with the slot on the vertical tab. Manipulation showed that the case could not be closed tightly enough to allow those pieces to match up. Further examination showed that the two rubber bumper guards at the lock end of the case were preventing full closure, no matter how much pressure was applied. Solution: remove and discard the bumper pads. Now the lock works just fine and and keeps the case tightly closed. I'm very pleased with the unit. I gave it 4 stars because of the trouble shooting I had to do and the fact that I had to remove the bumper pads to make it work.

I bought this item and it was easy to set up combo. Easy to lock and close. Was hard to open and first but once opened all was good. The size is fine for one gun. It is made of metal so appears to be strong. Easy to transport to car and attach.

Box seems to be well-made and sturdy, and the combo lock & opening knob is easy to use. If there's a weak spot, it's likely the combo lock where the knob is plastic. The metal of the box is surprisingly hefty. The foam is adequate, but it needed some adhesive so that it wouldn't fall out. For less than $19, it seems like a good deal and suffificent to meet Colorado's intrusive law requiring firearms to be secured in the home if minors are present. Personally, I prefer education and discipline which counters curiosity and misbehavior. XL size is good for my Sig .40 and J-framed .38.

I bought this Amazon Basics Portable Security Case Lock for my daughter's dorm room. The quality is very good, with a sturdy build and a reliable lock that gives some extra peace of mind for storing valuables. While I'm not sure how often she'll actually use it, it's nice to have available just in case. Overall, it's well-made, reasonably priced, and a smart item to keep around in a dorm setting.
