I bought the Amazon Basics Pet Carrier Backpack for our Sphynx kitten, mainly for vet appointments and for my 11-year old daughter to take her on short walks, and it has been perfect for our needs. The backpack is lightweight, comfortable, and very easy to use, which makes it ideal for a child or adult to carry. The padded straps make it comfortable on the back, and it doesn’t feel bulky or awkward. The interior is roomy enough for her to sit and peek out at the world or curl up comfortably, but still snug so she feels protected.

This backpack carrier is definitely cute and fun in design—the bubble window alone makes it feel like a little adventure pod. In terms of build quality, it’s lightweight, has good ventilation from the mesh panels, and the bubble window zips on and off so the carrier can collapse almost flat for storage. The chest strap is a helpful addition for keeping the weight centered, though for me it wasn’t essential since the carrier isn’t really big enough to accommodate our heavier pets anyway. Size-wise, this is where expectations matter. I have three cats: around 8.5 lbs, 10 lbs, and a 12 lb chonky. • 12 lb cat: Could not fit comfortably at all. • 10 lb cat: Could squeeze in but couldn’t stand fully or lie down properly—she really only had room to sit upright, which isn’t ideal for anything more than very short transport. • 8.5 lb cat: This was the size I’d consider most appropriate. He could sit comfortably and curl up to lie down with a little extra room to adjust, though it’s still a smaller interior space overall compared to a traditional carrier. He’s also under a year old, so will likely outgrow it soon. Because my brave cats didn’t fit (sad face) and my smaller cat is afraid of vehicles, I couldn’t take him outside in it, but I did walk him around the house with the side flap open so he wouldn’t feel trapped. He seemed to enjoy looking around, and the bubble window definitely piqued his curiosity. The backpack itself is a bit awkward to keep level while walking—I found I had to almost hunch forward a bit to keep the base level for the passenger. I included photos showing our 8.5 lb cat inside & a size comparison with the smallest airline approved traditional carrier I own which doesn’t fit our chonky kitty. This backpack is definitely sized for small pets only. I would not recommend it for large cats around 10 lbs or heavier, as the space just isn’t sufficient for them to move, turn, or rest comfortably for any length of time. Overall, it’s a charming idea with good ventilation and easily collapsible for storage, but realistically best suited for small animals.

This carrier is light weight and convenient to going to the vet. Both of the 5 month kittens fit well. remember to lock the zipper however. I set the kittens outside for some fresh air while I grabbed my purse and they opened the zipper. I got the little rascals quickly however and was not late for the appointment.
