  • Sturdy, large, and worth the price.
I didn't use this for what most people seem to-- as a coat locker for kids. Instead, I'm using this as a corner closet for my desk; It's a place I can keep my backups battery power supply and Not have my cat turn off my computer by pressing the power button (she's done that more than a few times in the past), somewhere I can hang a jacket when I get cold while working on computer and/or college work, and a nice display and storage for et cetera wires and knickknacks. I left the very bottom shelf open for the cat to have and not get in the way of my computer chair wheels. Pictured, the light-up area is from Christmas lights that are just a bit too long. (I'll be taking it down soon, but for now, it's bright lighting for the inside.) Assembly was very easy for the corner piece. I thought the instructions weren't in the box (which arrived in a very long and wide, flat box), but they were. It's just a very small packet the size of an average lady's hand. The instructions are all pictures and everything is labeled nicely. Only extra tool needed that is not included is a screwdriver. I think it only took me an hour (at most) to get finished, but it was likely less time than that. Would be definitely less time if I didn't worry about waking my sister up down the hallway. Materials. Almost all of it is actual wood with a light gloss finish. It's easy to dent, as I found out when I was lifting the thing over my desk to get it to it's new home, but it doesn't detract from the look. No one's going to notice any scrathes on this. If I sand it down a little, I don't see why I can't one day stain this to actually match the rest of my furniture. There is particle board backing on two sides (the left and right back sides, not the center board at the very back), but it's thick and durable. I was worried at first, when taking it out of the box, but after getting it all up, moved, and in place, I'm confident it can stand up to even my 5 year old... if I were to have her use this instead of me. Considering my current uses, I did drill a 3/4" hole in the back for wires. I drilled this through the cardboard-like backing that's included. Clearly not a big enough hole for most power cords to go through, but good for the small wires to thread through and get plugged in. I'll be getting a bigger hole-maker for the drill so I don't have to weave wires around the outside, but for now, it works. I plan on 3M-pasting in the motion sensor light strips inside so I have a light source when I need to plug/unplug something. Something easy to maintain and less hole-drilling. Things I love: It's sturdy, it feels durable, and I don't worry about putting something heavy in or on top of it. I wouldn't say I would feel okay sitting on the top of it, but if I had a backpack full of big textbooks (like I had more than a decade ago in high school), it'd withstand that fine. It's a lot bigger than I expected. Something about the reviews made me feel like this was smaller, even if I took out a tape measure and got a mental idea of the size. Granted, those reviews are probably for the not-corner pieces, so that part is understandable. This corner section, however, is spacious for sure. I could hide all kinds of wire bins and little computer part boxes in here. It's heavy, too. Not so much that it's not movable, as I was able to lift it by myself (with careful balancing) to get it in my desk area. It'd have been safer and probably smarter to get help, though, just because of the shape and height. I didn't install the safety strap that hooks onto the wall. I really will be surprised if this thing ever tips over, both from the way it's supposed to sit against the wall and the shape. Things I wish: I know this is a coat locker, but I can see one of these with an extra shelf for the middle instead of hooks included would make for a pretty neat shelf for both storage and display. I also do wish there were color options, like a chocolate or ebony staining instead of the typical classroom plain wood look. (Besides, who says a classroom can't have nicer-colored furniture? Putting aside the fact for a moment that some kids are destructive.) I think more folks may consider buying this if they didn't think they'd also have to paint/stain this. Quick note. I don't advise anyone try to stain particle board. Just paint that part, since it's not actually wood planks. I had a passing thought about using another one as part of the household's entertainment center (altogether, we have a lot of game systems and devices), but that'd be more considerable as an idea if the open area and the two visible sides were flipped-- open on the sides with a piece of wood in the center. I say that, but realize now I could do this and just not out the particle board parts in, then put it backwards in the other corner of the room. Great ideas come when you "speak out loud"... except I'd still wish I had that extra shelf. Oh well. All in all? I'm really glad I finally bought this. Had it on my list to buy for probably more than half a year now, and I definitely do not regret it (even if it is much bigger than expected). It is and will be easy to modify to my needs/color choices, and I would love to get another one should I find a place it's needed and will fit into well. ... show more

  • Perfect for home daycare
Style: 5-Section with Bench
Can’t say enough about the quality of this bench/coat locker. It is sturdy and easy to put together. I put it together in under an hour. Only needed a second pair of hands towards the end. The wood is excellent quality. Very attractive. Gave it as a gift to a home daycare. She loved it. Perfect height for the littles (2-6 year olds). Great price for quality. Look no further!!! ... show more

  • Beautiful wood color and fairly easy to put together, but check dimensions of cubbies.
Style: 5-Section with Bench
Beautiful wooden lockers. My only complaint are how the back panel nails were challenging to screw in. You do need a good power drill to get the nails in at the right angle. Also, I wish the top cubby space was wider and not narrow. It's hard to store anything up there. Just check the dimensions of the cubbies. ... show more

  • Hassle-Free, Sturdy and Serviceable
Full disclosure: I ordered this "Amazon Basics Coat Locker" as a storage unit for a corner of my upstairs study room, so I am not actually using it as a coat closet for kids. It has met or exceeded my expectations relative to how I anticipated using it. Assembly was a smooth, hitch-free operation, with all pieces fitting properly and necessary tools provided. (Just be sure to thoroughly review the assembly instructions first to identify wood pieces and screws specifically; instructions are more diagram based than text based.) The finished product is solid, capable of storing objects of considerable weight. The opening at each shelf level is about 14 inches wide, but the inside space expands to about 30 inches across the widest point. (Top shelf is 8-and-one-half inches in height; middle shelf is 25 inches high; and bottom shelf is 9-and-three-quarters inches high.) As this is a corner unit, just remember that the interior space recedes the closer you get to the back of each shelf. This is an excellent unit for my storage needs, but it is also a good-looking corner piece as storage closets go, suitable for a bedroom, a home office or study, even a workout room for those thinking beyond the original scholastic purpose. For those actually intending a youngster's coat locker, I can only guess but I believe it should work well for small coats and jackets, with shelf room for shoes and boots below, and the top shelf holding lunch bags, notebooks, and other books. I can also see this unit serving well as a gym closet for various athletic and workout equipment. For the record, I have had the unit set up for about two weeks and I can still at times, upon walking into the room, detect a slight wood scent from this cabinet. I do not expect this to last, but it has been a pleasant bonus. One final note for recycling fiends like myself: this unit comes firmly packed (the good news), but there is as much Styrofoam and plastic-bag material as wood (the bad news). I spent considerably more time breaking down the cardboard box, the inserts and the Styrofoam, and organizing the plastic bag pieces than I did assembling the unit. That said, this is an outstanding product for the price. ... show more

  • Poor quality
Style: 5-Section with Bench
I purchased three of the same coat lockers from ECR4kids. They were easy to assemble used metal hardware to connect, easy assembly, very sturdy. I purchased 3 of the Amazon Basic Coat lockers thinking it would be the same. The instructions were terrible, assembly was worse, use of pegs to connect the product. Fell apart with the first test, started the process over, same results. Return two of the lockers, and could not in good conscientious return the broken product. Amazon offered a credit previously and did not give credit. The second rep reduced the credit the first rep initiated. ... show more

  • It gets the job done
Style: 5-Section with Bench
The size of the cubbies are just right for our PreK class. We’re able to keep their blankets rolled up, jackets on the hook, shoes in the top slot and diapers in bottom. It was very easy to assemble and it’s of great quality
