  • Unbelievable Pricing. And Truly Functional, Sturdy and Gorgeous!
I have my everlasting and sharp as can be Cutco steak knives. I have 10 of them. I have my Shun steak knives--but only four. I'd need a second job or mortgage to buy the additional four I want. Besides, while they're good, I don't find them to be better than Cutco. Both those sets cost so much money that it's really a once-in-a-decade type of purchase. The upside is that it's plausible that I will never need to buy steak knives again in my lifetime, especially since Cutco continually sharpens mine or sends me a new one if the one I send for sharpening is not worthy of fixing. Now, having said that, I was having 15 guests over for a steak BBQ dinner and realized that I was the genius who had JUST mailed off my knives to Cutco three days prior to the event. Too late to run to UPS to get them back, and I only have eight Wusthof knives, so....I immediately came to Amazon. I didn't want an expensive set because if I just had both sets in the house, I'd have enough to cover everyone. I really needed just a back-up emergency set and planned to spend under $100 for all 10-15 knives, if possible. If too pricey, I figured I'd order 10 and make do by pre-slicing some meat. Well, I then find this AmazonBasics set and it's...$20 for eight knives. I'm thinking it's a misprint and looking at the picture, there's simply no way these knives would be $20 for eight. Full tang, riveted handle, single-piece construction....a serrated edge....and $20. It doesn't make any sense and I'm convinced this is hogwash. It's not possible... But, you figure I needed these for one night and so long as they didn't disintegrate during the dinner, I figure it's just added cost to the dinner if they should fall apart right afterwards. They were available as Amazon Prime, so I ordered two as 16 knives would cover me for this dinner. Imagine my surprise when I open the box to find an actual single-piece construction, a viciously sharp serrated tip/edge and an incredibly sturdy feel in the hand. The rivets are embedded flawlessly and the look of the knives are quite impressive. They appear and feel hefty. Now, given that I'm comparing this to steak knives that cost well over $500 for the set ( Cutco: https://www.cutco.com/products/product.jsp?item=4-pc-steak-knife-set ), it's not surprising that Cutco is better in terms of sharpness. That set makes steak act like butter when it begins slicing. This AmazonBasics set is not quite as sharp; in fact, it's much duller than that set, naturally. But it accomplishes steak slicing with ease and in the hand, feels sturdier and pricier overall. The oddity is that the serrated edge is only at the front half of the knife instead of all the way through, so you do need to slant your knife more to achieve the cut with ease, though any which way you use it will get through the meat. Perhaps serrating the edge all the way through would have pushed the price up--in which case, fine, I'll take the first half of the knife. Overall, this set is superb in price and functionality. If budget is an issue and you want a whole 16 pc. set, getting two of these knives is no problem at all. They look outstanding on a table setting and while there's no real branding on the knife, they look and feel substantial. Nobody would guess you spent less than $3.00 per steak knife. NOBODY. This is now my go-to set for big parties where I am not concerned what people do with the knives. You figure if any of them break, I can come back and get as many of these sets as I want anytime. Really outstanding value and buy! ... show more

  • High Quality
I absolutely, positively love these steak knives. They are sharp and they have a decent weight to them; they do not feel flimsy. They feel good in my hand while I’m using them and they cut very well, without tearing the meat. I do not let them sit in water, I wash and dry them immediately after each use. They are holding up very well with my cleaning routine. ... show more

  • 9 years of use and they are still my favorite knives 9 years of use and they are still my favorite knives
I was expecting the quality to equal that of IKEA (which would have been fine for the price). But these knives are very well made, solid, sturdy, nice weight to the handle and very sharp. I am very impressed. update 2026, with photos. Summary: I bought this Amazon Basics 8-piece steak knife set in 2017, and in 2026 they are still my favorite daily-use knives, still sharp, and somehow still “perfect” despite years of abuse. These were originally supposed to be basic steak knives. Instead, they have become my go-to knives for everything. They have basically replaced my more expensive knife set, which now mostly sits around like it is retired and living off a pension. They also feel better in the hand than you would expect. The handles have a good weight to them, so they do not feel flimsy or toy-like. They have a balanced, solid feel that makes them comfortable for daily use. The most impressive part is edge retention. After nine years of daily use, I have not sharpened them. Not once. And they are still sharp enough for normal kitchen work and dinner use. For additional context, I am a daily meat eater, so these things have cut into thousands of steaks over the years. If they were going to give up, it would have happened sometime around steak number 600. I have not exactly treated them gently. I have thrown them in the dishwasher many times by accident. I have taken them camping. They have been knocked around, used constantly, and generally lived a hard life. And yet they are still in great shape. No weird loosening, no unusable dullness, no “well they were cheap” disappointment. If you want a set of small knives that you can use every day without babying them, this set is an easy recommendation. I would buy them again without hesitation, and at this point I trust them more than knives that cost several times as much. ... show more

  • Cute well with little effort.
These knives are well made and serrations are sharp, They easily cut through steak and chicken with little effort. The grip is well proportioned and feels comfortable even in my large hands. Finally the price was right. Never thought the set would be this well made at that price. I fully recommend this steak knife set. You won’t go wrong. ... show more

  • BUY THESE, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!
These are great knives. I'll admit my old steak knives are just old! I've had them probably before most reading this old, like decades, plural! I love these. They have a great hand balance, easy to grip and I like a bit of a serrated knife for steak knives. It makes them multipurpose. I can use it to cut a steak, bread, tomatoes or really anything. I use steak knives like a paring knife. I never realized how dull my old set was until now. These are super sharp so watch those fingers! And definitely hand wash them if you want them to keep that sharpness. I'd definitely recommend these to anyone. Might even give a few away as prezzies! ... show more

  • HUGE
These are huge. I guess they'd be appropriate if you run a steakhouse and serve gigantic three inch hunks of meat but they looked ridiculous on our table. Returned them.
