You aren't supposed to wash this liner in the machine and I was skeptical it would resist mildew without washing. It just began to mildew after 3 years. We did wash a previous one, and the problem with washing it is it seems to wash off the anti-mildew coating, as well as makes the shower curtain very wrinkled. I am not happy about having to purchase such a large plastic item, but I felt 3 years for the price was a great value.

It smells a little when you first open it but an open window in the bathroom for an hour or even just leaving the bathroom door open for a bit and the smell is gone.
