  • Great Pump
Style: 5400
The pump controller allows adjustment of the flow. Works great. Very quiet. The pump failed after 2 seasons but Alpine replaced it with a new pump. Great customer service!

  • THIS is the Pump You Should Buy!
Style: 5400
I built a 30' pondless waterfall and stream with an 7-foot head. It has 8000 lbs of basalt rock and river rock, blue/green lighting, automatic irrigation for the surrounding garden, a little bridge, etc. It was a big investment in time and money. When it came to selecting a pump, I wasn't sure what flow rate would be ideal. Would I want high flow and loud? Or a very low flow that is quiet and calming? I also was concerned about energy use. I found some pumps that burned 400W of power. The electricity bill to run these pumps 24/7 would be significant. I created a spreadsheet in excel and listed over a dozen different top rated pumps from various manufacturers. When I found this Alpine pump, it immediately stood out as the best. I've run it only for a week now, so I can't comment on its durability and reliability. But, after turning it on and experimenting with it, I am very surprised by three discoveries: 1. At 100% power, the flow rate is amazing. It's like I have a little Niagra Falls running. The waterfalls are loud and turbulent. But the calm, lower-flow setting of 33% is preferred by family members. It's quiet and calming. I love the variable speed controller! Why would you settle for a pump that doesn't have variable speed? Most days I want quiet, but some days I want loud and bold waterfalls. 2. At 100% power, the power usage is only around 160W. But at my preferred 33% setting, it's only 30W!!!!!! Wow! This waterfall is costing me next to nothing to operate due to the high efficiency motor! 3. I didn't realize that the controller has a digital 0-100% setting that SWITCHES to a watt meter after you make your flow rate percentage selection. I love the built in watt meter! I measured it against a dedicated watt meter that I own and it's spot-on accurate. All in all, assuming this pump is durable, it's the one to buy. ADDED May 2, 2022... After 4 years of near continuous use, this pump is still going strong. I've had zero problems with it. ADDED Nov 28, 2023... Pump still going strong. ... show more

  • Waste of money
Style: 5400
The pump ran fine for a few months, but then started to destroy itself. The clamps holding the pump in place failed and or broke off its own intake. Found that smaller debris that could get past the filter eventually caused the impeller to start breaking apart in sections until it eventually failed. I will never buy another product from this manufacturer again. Purchased in February, failed to make it through July. ... show more

  • Great Pump Great Customer Service
Style: 5400
I bought the 5400 gph pump a little over a year ago for use as the main water mover for our ~5000 gallons gold fish/koi pond . The pump and controller has been on almost 24/7 ever since without any issues . My pond is next to a live oak so I did have to clean out leaves/roots stuck on the propeller twice . The pump works very well , even with the propeller fully clogged it was still moving water . About a week and half ago a thunderstorm rolled through our area . Lightning struck my neighbor's tree . I came out after to find the pump not running . There was a smell of burned plastic around the controller so I opened it up and the PCB was charred at one corner . I called customer service the next day and was connected right away . After hearing what I have to say , the rep told me the pump was still under warranty and they will honor it . I got the email the day after with instructions to provide pictures of damage and verify my purchase . And before the week was out I paid $15 for shipping . Fedex delivered the replacement today . I only wanted the controller replaced but Alpine sent me the whole set . Thank you so much . ... show more

  • Not as described
Style: 5400
Ok love the price. Great construction and material. But the power box to adjust the flow is lacking. This pump only puts out about 2000 gph not even close to 5000 gph it only uses 190 watts can't get it to goto 200 watts and even when you adjust the flow lower there is no noticeable difference. It is only pumping water at a height of 4 ft. I would buy it again with the adjustable flow. It does what my old pump did so I am happy with that. I also bought the 1400 model as well. It works like it is supposed to. I also read the manual there is not I can adjust to make it pump more water. So unless they installed the wrong pump I don't know what to tell you. ... show more

  • Not as strong as my Little Giant 4000 gph pump, but way more energy efficient.
Style: 5400
I had a waterfall and small pond installed in my yard in 2014. I loved it, but I hated that it added $30 to my power bill every month. I know that doesn't sound like much but my power bill had never crossed over $45 a month prior to that. Had the landscaper told me about the power consumption I would have looked for one more energy efficient. after 3 years of it I decided it was time to look for another pump. after searching online i decided to try this one. There were a few different sizes and I decided to go with the 5400 gph model as I heard it wasn't as powerful going up a grade. That is true. It is definitely not as strong as my Little Giant 4000 gph pump, but way more energy efficient. My power bill dropped by about $24 a month. The waterflow is probably about 80 -85% of what it used to be on the little giant pump, but it is still plenty. if you have a tall waterfall, this pump is not the one for you, but mine in probably about 5 ft tall and it does plenty. I also appreciate that the cage makes it easy to clean the leaves around it. I run this 24 hours a day 365 days a year and it does fantastic. ... show more
