I used to get chrome nails 5-6 years ago before anyone on social media was doing it…. And now it’s all the rage. I’ve never tried doing it myself, but since I do my own gel manis & pedis at home, I took on the challenge. I’m by no means an expert in gel nail art, so this was a little tricky and time consuming for me. Not gonna lie, it took me almost an hour and a half (including prep work and disassociating watching TikTok 😅). I think all gel manis look better when you spend extra time on cuticle work, but that’s also not my forte. It is what it is. I got the Autumn Gingko color. I really wanted to do a deep chocolate brown color (gel) with a reddish-brown shift. This is close, but it ended up making it more of a copper color with orange undertones. Still VERY pretty and mirror-like in person. Photos do NOT do it justice. I went to my son’s Meet & Greet at school today & got tons of compliments standing outside. Someone said “OMG your nails need a warning! They’re so bright!” In the right light, I can see a magenta sheen, a greenish-gold color, and coral-orange. Straight on, they usually look like a copper penny. To do it, I used my regular nail dehydrator, base coat, polish, and no-wipe top coat. My polish is a random Amazon brand (a jelly chocolate brown) and the rest of it is Modelones. I cured everything for 60 seconds and did 3 coats of the jelly brown color, then cured the last color coat for 99 secs. I saw videos saying to only cure the first layer of no-wipe top coat for 10 seconds before applying the chrome, in order to get it to stick and create a mirror look. It worked and I only needed a TINY bit of powder on the applicator. Some say to do 2 chrome coats, but I knew that would start getting thick with my 3 color coats. I just did one & it’s the perfect effect. I finished it off with another layer of top coat & cured for 99 seconds. On one hand I tried buffing my nail tips & edges before the chrome (I read that makes the chrome stick better), and on the other hand I did the chrome and then lightly buffed my tips before the final top coat. Guess which hand started chipping chrome today? The hand I buffed before the chrome. The hand I buffed before the final top coat is sticking better! It’s a learning process for sure, but there’s so many color combo options!! Excited to use this powder over black and even milky white sometime. There’s not a lot of powder in the pot, but you don’t need much.

This is the Orange Sunset chrome powder with and without flash. I applied it with a non-wipe top coat (Kupa) on top of a light pink cat eye gel polish. It's absolutely beautiful! However, I will say that the amount of product you receive in the jar is sad. I don't know why companies charge so much for so little, but that is why I deducted one star in my review. Overall, it functions as described when used correctly, the color shift is beautiful, it's lacking in the value for the money, but it sticks well to a proper non-wipe top coat, and it is easy to remove as long as you do it before top coating it with a clear UV gel. Also, you absolutely must seal the edges of your nails with top coat or it will all chip!

If you are looking to get the sheer glazed look, I recommend the moonlight white powder. I have purchased several powders that claim to be “glazed donut” but they’re not quite the look I was going for as the finish is more of a pearly white shimmer. This one is the closest to that sheer look that I’ve found so far. In the pics are a comparison of different powders that all claim to do the same thing- #62 is this product and the swatch on the far right is the base color so you can see this powder doesn’t really alter the base color much or even at all. Also worth mentioning- depending on how the light hits it, it can look glazed or just very shimmery. Hard to tell from the pics. I’m really happy with this powder and will use it but I’m still in the hunt for the perfect glazed look- if it even exists! Give it a try- at this price point I think it’s worth it.
