Overall very satisfied with the quality and experience making this with my 4.5 year old who is currently interested in animals and animal habitats. The directions leave something to be desired but it’s still easy to figure out and it’s good for kids to see how an adult they trust handles a little ambiguity and uncertainty. It helps get them involved in thinking things through too. And the directions aren’t lacking THAT much… it says things like “Tip, don’t hammer the nails in fully at first so you have wiggle room to slide in the walls.” And that provided a learning opportunity for my kid… he understood well enough when I explained why. A few bits of information and suggestions that may help others: I bought a separate assortment of outdoor paints and already have nice (ish) brushes and glad I did because this comes with one of those rinky dinky four-color selection with very tiny paint brush. Also, at end, the directions name three bird species that are likely to enjoy the (small) house: chickadees, nuthatches, and finches. And I think I saw another reviewer same some wrens live in theirs. So yeah, it’s small and may just end up being a wasp nest house 🙄 but the size was perfect for assembling and painting without spending a lot of time or money, especially for kid hands/attention. ... show more

I got these bird houses for my dad to put together with me. We had fun. It was nice to see him not sitting in front of the TV. Paints were not easy to use. I suggest more water and a little sponge, or buy extra paint to have enough to paint the whole house.

My 13 year old daughter found this very easy to assemble. She liked painting it. Although the paints and brushes are a bit low quality. Not a big issue though. The house itself was very cute once finished.

Whoever decided to make the directions without photos are much explanation is on my crap list. Doing this with a young child required so much patience and a few prying out with the back of hammer to undo the wrong placements I thought were right bc the directions are ambiguous! I consider myself a professional with building and constructing items from boxes and I prefer idea over this b.s. Birdhouse quality is not terrible and it does work, paint is waterproof though the paint itself was thicker than old toothpaste and came out in chunks.. be wary if doing with younger children as frustrations will be had all around. ... show more
