  • It's Okay!
Size: Right Hinge Color: Black
This is why I gave this refrigerator 3 stars: I was really looking forward to getting this wine refrigerator after seeing the number of 5 star and 4 star reviews! There was just a few that complained about the noise, so I thought they might be 1) Overly sensitive or 2) their unit wasn't acting right. Well, I followed the wait 24 hours instruction and plugged it in. The refrigerator started and sounded o.k., a rather pronounced fan sound coming from the front of the unit. I told myself it's sorta loud, but maybe it needed to run and cool down for it to be quieter. As I said, after the 24 hour waiting and after plugging it in, I started loading the refrigerator and kept hoping for the unit to make less noise as it runs, it hasn't done it. At times it has a gurgling sound, a small vibration noise at other times and it seems to cycle on and off a lot! I checked the level of the unit and the door seal and both are fine. I do love the looks and storage capabilities of the unit, It's just the noise that a unit in this price rage shouldn't have in my opinion. I guess this is the disadvantage of buying online, no showroom to go touch and hear what they are supposed to sound like! I want to like it, but the noise makes it just "o.k." As far a temp settings, I'll give it a few weeks to see how it performs in that aspect! Update: It's been a few weeks now, I've nearly got it stocked full. The running noise hasn't quieted down at all, it seems to have gotten louder, probably because it's hard for me to tune it out! Also, it runs a lot! It is constantly going on and off, but checking my electrical usage via the power company's website it doesn't seem to be drawing much power. Also, the lower setting which I set at 65 had never gotten higher than 55! I'm going to call the manufacturer and see if they say that's normal. 2nd Update: I've lowered my rating, this thing is just loud and noisy! I have it in my office area of the house but I can hear it when I'm in the adjoining rooms and the TV or Radio is at a low volume. Additionally I called the Manufacturer and spoke with one of their customer service people about the noise and the temperature settings. She advised me the unit wasn't as quiet as your typical home refrigerator, she also said to maintain the set temperatures it does run often! Another reason I dropped my rating was that the Rep also advised me that the temp range between top and bottom is only 13 degrees! Nowhere in the ad or the owners manual does it say that, so if you want your whites at 45 your reds can only be as high as 58, which I could settle for but the temps are actually around 50 degrees and 56 degrees respectively. For the price of this unit I feel this isn't what I was was expecting! ... show more

  • Defective Product - Expected Life Only 1-2 Years
Size: Right Hinge Color: Black
Purchased this wine Refrigerator in April 2017 for $1,599. + tax. A couple of weeks ago, we noted that the temperature readout for both zones was 64 degrees and the inside of the refrigerator was very warm - undoubtedly much hotter than 64 degrees. I contacted Allavino. They had me try a hard reset. It didn't work. Allavino informed me they do not perform any service work and gave me the name of a local service company. They also offered an "extended" warranty, which would replace the unit for $900! The service company came out and told me the compressor must be replaced - estimated cost $1,000. When the repair man opened the door of the unit, he said he could smell a leak. This smell was not unpleasant and was present when we received the refrigerator. Since the refrigerator seemed to be operating fine, we just assumed it was a smell emanating from the materials used in the interior. The repair man informed us that all of the large capacity wine refrigerators only have an expected life of 1-2 years, including Allavino, and that ours died right on schedule. Apparently, this is a widely known fact in the industry that is not disclosed to their customers. Since this was a third party seller, Amazon took no known action to rectify this situation. ... show more

  • Failed after 34 months

I've updated this review - we've had the same problem reported by Jan. Indicated temps showed 64 (that's the highest they go). Customer service is readily available and they suggested the "30 minute reboot." It worked. For about 5 days, then 64 64 again. Customer service offered to replace it for $800, but I don't think I'll chance it. 2-3 year reliability is terrible for such an expensive device. I may just do without one. We've had this unit for two weeks, so far it's been pretty much as advertised. I've had a problem installing the door handle because the included screws were too short. I took them to a hardware store and they fit an 8-32 nut. Back home, the new, longer 8-32 screws didn't fit the door handle. My current theory is that they're metric screws. Aargh! The unit seems about as quiet as it could be. It's in our dining room and doesn't interfere with dinner or conversation. I think other reviews have mentioned that many of the racks fit only standard-sized bottles. There's only one rack in the cold section that is sized for fat bottles (even stacked fat bottles). Sparkling wine and many Chardonnays have fatter bottles that don't fit well on the other cold shelves. We drink more whites and sparkling wines than reds, so the fact that there's more room in the warmer section isn't optimum for us. ... show more
