I have a 9,500 lb. rated Champion winch mounted to the front of a 4x4 GMC truck. The winch came with steel cable. While helping a friend "pull down" and old house by knocking holes in parts of the walls and simply pulling them out collapsing the wall and roof. It was working well. Unfortunately I kinked the steel winch cable making an ugly knot and keeping it from rewinding smoothly. Small frayed wires began to appear that could do serious harm even with heavy leather gloves. I decided to replace the steel cable with a synthetic rope. I bought this product along with a new smooth fairlead. I selected 1/2" x 92' as this was close to the original steel cable size. Then the problems began. The anchor at then end of the cable was too thick for the OEM screw. I finally found a longer metric screw, wasting almost an hour in the process. I attached the new fairlead and anchor and began to wrap the rope. It did not wrap evenly so I tied the end to a tree and wrapped it around the drum under tension. This worked better as it brought the woven strands of the rope together in a tighter pattern. Then I discovered the cable was too long to wrap all of it around the winch drum. After personal debate I took the rope off thinking I would send it back, but that would stop our work for a week or more. So I decided to shorten the rope 10'. I cut off the orange section, slid the orange cover up over the black rope, attached a 1/2" battery cable lug with a hydraulic crimper to the cut end and reattached the synthetic rope to the drum anchor point. I was able to wind all of it on the drum. When I attempted to attach my end hook the metal eye of the rope was too thick for the opening on the hook. I had to make up an alternative end with logging chain and two new hooks. Another hour wasted. Back at the demo house I spooled out the rope and we attached it to some outer wall studs using looped chain through a window and door opening. As I pulled the rope would not wind evenly under tension, It slipped between the lower sections on the drum making a mess. The "protective" outer cover at the end jammed in the fairlead, and bunched up on the spool. Eventually it had to be cut off to unwind the rope. Try as we might we could not completely unspool the rope since it had slipped between windings, flattened and literally glued itself together. We had to tie the end around a big tree, set the winch to freespool and back the truck up to free the rope from the spool. The rope was twisted, frayed, flattened and covered with a sticky black goo. It was a disaster from the get-go, a waste of time. I should have returned it when I encountered the first problem but since I cut the rope and removed the protective cover I am morally stuck with it.. It is back on as modified but yet to be tested. I seriously doubt it is going to work any better. The ONLY plus I can give the rope is that it does not weigh as much as the steel cable.

The rope is great no complaints but anyone who is gonna take their 3/8 winch rope off and put this on you will have to cut a good 15’ off due to it being significantly thicker it takes up a lot more room on the winch spool and starts to rub on the inside of winch housing and also when you put on free spool it is a pain the a$$ to try and pull it off!

I purchased this rope for my winch but when it started to tighten up I didn’t like the way the rope was rolling up on the drum , so it was a no good for me maybe for a different application maybe.
