I've tried out tablets before and always found them lacking. They were fine for consuming content and being portable browsers but if I wanted to get work done they were too slow or too weak or not comfortable enough to use, especially if I needed a keyboard. Well, I couldn't resist the Amazon Black Friday deal that paired this tablet with the Bluetooth keyboard case, and now I love it. Finally, all the functionality I need, with portability and performance. And it didn't cost an arm and a leg like my old Samsung tablet or the more recent Apple tablet I got for a family member. The screen is great, it's bright and colorful and supports full HD. The touch screen performance is pretty good too. With the keyboard case I can type emails quickly and even when just browsing or reading I can use the keyboard keys for navigation since sometimes that's more precise than the touch screen. The tablet even has stereo speakers. The one thing I really like the tablet for is reading documents with graphics such as comic books and magazines. For text only, a lighter reader or a phone are ok. But I always found it uncomfortable to read comics and magazines. Not anymore. With the Kindle app's special comic reading mode that expands each panel into view one by one, my poor aging eyes can enjoy comics on the tablet without having to put on glasses. Magazines are still a little tricky and you have to spend time zooming in on text but it's still better than older tablets when it comes to reading. Cons? Not many, but as other reviewers have noted, this device lives in the Amazon ecosystem. So you get Alexa (if you want it), and great Amazon integration with your account, but the Amazon version of the Play store may not have all the apps you use. There are also ads on the lock screen in my version, they're inobtrusive enough, but of course Amazon is in control and could potentially make them more invasive if they wanted to. It's, at this time, a fair trade-off. The tablet is a very nice and lightweight way to easily grab some reading time before bed, or check email anywhere in the house, or read a magazine. For content creation, nothing will beat a desktop and full-size keyboard, but for what it is, I think this Fire tablet is helpful and functional and affordable. ... show more

The keyboard case is pretty nice. It basically turns into a nice little laptop. Easy to use and responds quickly without lag. The memory expansion option is nice. I’m happy with it. The split screen feature is great if you want to have music or tv on the side while you read news or surf the web. Update: I’ve had it for around 3 weeks now. I still really like it. It works well as my entertainment laptop. It handles email, streaming services, Kindle and Audible books, Amazon photos, etc. really well. I added the 256GB memory chip. It isn’t a work laptop replacement but is great for entertainment/home use where you’re tired of using your smartphone and want a bigger screen but not a full blown laptop. That’s what this is perfect for in my opinion. I really like the keyboard and find it handy as a good quality storage case in addition to being a keyboard. Very happy with it and would buy again. Update August 12, 2021: I've had this for 2.5 months now and still really enjoy it. I think it is perfect for what I wanted - an entertainment machine. I still wouldn't recommend it as a work laptop replacement, but if you're looking for something to read news, watch TV in a portable way with hot spot on your phone, review email, surf the web, and do your internet shopping - I'd say get this with the keyboard case. For the money, this is as good as you'll get on the market today. Update April 11, 2022: The tablet is still great for my purposes. The add-on keyboard for it had keys that stopped working, so I wouldn't recommend that any longer. I'd buy the tablet itself again for sure though. Haven't had any problems after almost a year and it is still zippy. Still love the HD screen, too. Update August 30, 2022: I still use this regularly at night while watching news in the background. This was a great buy. I don’t use my laptop or tower and monitor, I wanted something smaller and portable and lightweight but with the same basic options as the other. This is perfect for my needs. The battery is long lasting and charges fast. Bright and clear graphics. Perfect for watching movies, reading my books and using the internet. If you do much surfing or plan to use this for work, you should consider a model with more memory. I paid $100 for more memory and wish I had spent a little extra for more memory. Also it defaults to the Amazon search engine and you have to Google, Chrome or whatever you like to use. The screen and colors are fantastic, graphics and movies are great and for books it is a wonderful alternative to the more expensive but less colorful Kindle programs. Very light, slim and intuitive to use. This is my first Amazon tab after many years with Samsung and I love it. ... show more
