  • BEAST
Definitely not the item for everyone, but after looking around for a few weeks I decided it was the perfect one for me. Absolute beast of a laptop, extremely powerful. Yeah, you're paying a brand tax, but with the GPU market as it is, I figured it was worth it. Able to play AAA games on max, watch videos on a seperate monitor, run just about anything I could think of. I did end up buying a seperate cooling fan pad to keep under it, just to keep thermals perfect without the laptop fans running too loudly. In closing, if you're looking for a laptop than can play any game you could want to play, this is a solid choice. 5 stars. ... show more

  • Cannot recommend
The media could not be loaded. The specs are fantastic but this laptop lets itself down in so may ways. Way, way overpriced at over $3000! No touch screen! Not significantly faster or better in real world use than much cheaper models. Screen is okay but not impressive or mind blowing Speakers are great (one of the few pros) The lighted keyboard is nice but didn't need al theflashing and changing colors Froze and bogged down constantly during initial setup. (Windows was downloading updates at the same time but you would think with all that ram and fast cpu it could handle it. All in all a huge disappointment - especially in this price range ... show more

  • Great computer, but a cooling pad may needed.
It's a great laptop. Buy a cooling pad if you play cyberpunk 2077.

  • Appears to be a good investment so far.
I didn’t have enough time to go through it… I’ve found that it doesn’t read a *.wav audio file… so far, I. happy and satisfied with it.

  • Expected Faster, But Okay - Not Great Battery Life
I have another laptop with an I7 that's 2.8 Ghz. This is 2.21. This has more ram and video ram, but my other laptop cost less and is faster. I don't really use it for gaming, though. I use it for video production. This one is almost as fast as the 2.8 I have - actually pretty close. Maybe that's because it has more ram and video ram. But again, the price is also an issue. My other has much better battery life. This one only goes about 2 hours. But all in all, it's a nice laptop and I'll use it. I just expected a little faster and better battery life. ... show more

  • Maximum performance, minimal compromises
The Alienware m15 R4 offers impressive, desktop-replacement performance in a package not much larger than a typical 15" laptop. It’s an excellent option for gamers and content creators who want a fully-capable computing rig without the bulk of a traditional desktop PC. Short battery life and high operating temperatures limit this laptop’s potential as a truly mobile work/battle-station, but those are the usual trade-offs you’ll find in any high-end gaming laptop. Here are the highlights: CHASSIS: Surprisingly slim, under 0.8" at its thickest. The outer metal shell incorporates a soft-touch paint that gives this laptop a unique and premium feel. The screen has a little more flex than I prefer, but it’s not too bad. Port selection is decent, including Ethernet and three USB-A ports, but there’s only one USB-C/Thunderbolt port which inconveniently faces to the rear. The laptop’s security slot is a "Noble Wedge" type, which is a notable departure from the more common and decades-old "Kensington security slot". SCREEN: The 15" panel offers excellent colors and viewing angles, with average contrast. As with most IPS screens, this one has a slight background glow - neither the worst nor best that I’ve seen. The panel is plenty bright enough for indoor use but can’t quite compete with direct sunlight. The 300Hz refresh rate offers superb responsiveness for any game, although G-Sync isn’t supported on this configuration. KEYBOARD/TRACKPAD: Good layout and solid typing feel, with medium-travel keys and nice tactile feedback. The fully-customizable lighting looks fantastic, although the space bar doesn’t light up, and a few more animation presets would have been nice. The trackpad is on the small side (about 4”x2.5”), but its glass surface feels great in use. The pad rattles somewhat when tapped, but it otherwise works well. PERFORMANCE: The i7-10870H CPU, 32GB RAM (non-expandable), and 3080 laptop GPU are a beastly combination, and they make quick work of any game or workload that I throw at this laptop. The 140W TDP laptop GPU may not perform like a desktop 3080 graphics card, and 8GB of VRAM makes it best for sub-4K resolutions, but this setup is more than powerful enough for full-detail gaming on the built-in 1080p display or on an external 1440p monitor. An optional VBIOS update, offered on Dell’s support website, enables Resizable BAR for a slight additional speed boost. Naturally, the downside of all this performance is heat, and this laptop generates a ton of it. Even when running minimal loads on battery power, the bottom of the laptop gets very warm. Gaming or intense CPU usage just makes things worse, so a fan-equipped cooling pad would be a worthwhile addition to keep temperatures in check. STORAGE: My laptop came equipped with a 1TB Samsung PM9A1 SSD, which offers exceptional storage performance. Disk benchmarks produce sequential read/write speeds of 3500MB/s, which is as good as it gets for a PCIe 3.0-based system. This laptop features two additional internal NVMe M.2 slots for expansion, but only one of them accepts the typical 2280 style SSD. The other slot requires a shorter SSD (2242, or 2230 with adapter). Sadly, the copper heatsinks/adapter for fitting additional SSDs are not included, nor does Dell offer them for sale. The necessary parts can be purchased from third-party sellers, but they come at inflated prices. Overall, this laptop offers top-of-line portable gaming performance, in a compact and attractive package, with only a few minor and reasonable compromises. It’s a great alternative to building or buying a full-sized gaming PC, and Dell has confirmed that the m15 R4 will be upgradeable to Windows 11 upon release in late-2021/early-2022. Highly recommended. ... show more
