  • Used to be my favorites but they're not consistent anymore.
Size: 4-Strings
A few years back I tried out a few brands of bass strings and settled on these as my favorite. That they happened to be inexpensive (about $7 a pack on eBay at the time) was a great bonus. I did get a dead string on occasion, but I stuck with them because they were cheap, really punchy and bright, and lasted a pretty long time. I was happy with them and stuck with them. They were a lot like Ernie Balls but I actually preferred the Alice and they seemed to last a bit longer. Back then they came with red string wrapping at the ends. At some point they switched to plain strings (no wrapping) and you had to cut them. Then the most recent packs I've got are plain strings and were pre-cut to length. Those last two weren't purchased all that far apart... I'm not sure how long it was, but based on the comments it looks like which you get is random unless it was a very recent change. Anyway my recent packs have had a lot of problems with dead strings. They just haven't had the same punch that they used to. Some people have commented that if you have the ones that need to be cut, be sure to bend them first and then cut them. But the most recent set (the pre-cut ones) were just as dead as the previous set (not pre-cut) that I was sure I'd made that mistake with. So I've got a set on my bass right now that's only like a week old. When I picked up another bass that I strung up a while ago with Ernie Balls and the difference was night and day. The Ernie Balls were much punchier and brighter even though they'd been on there for a while. It seems that these come from some mysterious chinese group, so what may be happening here as is sometimes the case with lesser-known chinese brands is that these aren't always the same strings. It could be a grab-bag of strings from different places, or just whatever they can get cheaply at the time and later they switch to something else. I don't necessarily hate this practice (you can save a lot of money by not paying for big brands) but the problem is I just don't feel sure about what I'm getting anymore. In Alice's defense, counterfeit products are a big problem these days, and maybe what I got didn't come from them at all. All I know is the ones I've got from Amazon have all kind of sucked. So I'll probably switch again soon. Too bad. I liked my old robot cat strings. ... show more

  • Great Strings At a Great price
Size: 4-Strings
I have not played my bass in many years & the strings are quite old. Probably around 30 years old :-) They are flatwound strings with a dull sound. I saw these stings on Amazon & they had excellent ratings as well as a great price. I strung up my bass & tuned it up. The strings have a bright vibrant sound & stay in tune. All in all I am VERY happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Too short for 5 inline tuners
Size: 5-Strings
I was replacing very old strings and it would have been difficult to not be an improvement, but when I got to the G string, it wasn't actually long enough to be usable. I don't have any particularly special type of bass, it is a Squier J Bass with five in line tuners, and the farthest tuner is too far apparently. Being that a single string would have cost about as much as this entire set of strings, I just returned them and bought Dunlops, they were plenty long. ... show more

  • Cheap, but Good!
Size: 4-Strings
After picking up a set of Amazon Repackaged Fender flatwounds and suffering endless disappointment at the busted set of strings I was shipped - I tossed these on my old Ibanez and was seriously impressed. They have a great feel, solid tone and hold tune very well. Where have you been all my life?!?!?! ... show more

  • Yes, they are cheap strings....
Size: 5-Strings
Sure, they are cheap strings. However, they are great cheap strings so I have to give them 5 stars. One thing I noticed is they may be dead on install if you don't bend the string with pliers, then cut after the bend, when cutting the strings to length. If I had to rate them against all the other sets I've used over the years, I'd say something like 3.75/5. Still good, just not the same sound as a $30+ set of strings. I do like the low B sound though, so that's good. ... show more

  • Inexpensive and bright
Size: 4-Strings
These are inexpensive practice strings. They are very bright. The volume is punchy. After playing these string for a few weeks, they hold up well and stay in tune. The volume stays snappy.

  • Great price and if you like Erie Ball strings you'll like the Alice strings also!!!!
Size: 4-Strings
Had not heard of the alice brand of strings. The low price is what caught my attention, and I will say that they so far are an excellent choice for quality and value. Strings sound bright and had enough length to not worry about reaching tuning key or accidently cutting a bit short when putting them on. They do not have the silk covering that some strings do at the ball end and the tuning key end, not a problem for me at all I just thought I would mention. I would definitely buy again and would say over all if you use Ernie Ball's that the Alice's are right at that same level. ... show more

  • Wow...
Size: 5-Strings
The first string didn't even reach the tuning head on my Peavey bass. Waste of time and money.
