  • don't believe the hype(d low end of many other headphones)--great headphones for mixing
these headphones are meant for mixing. these aren't casual headphones for relaxing and listening to your favorite music. of course, they can be used for that, and they're good for that as well, but they're not meant to sound exciting like consumer/listener headphones usually are. they're not going to give you huge, thumpy bass, and a super-brilliant high end--and that's a good thing. these are better used as tools to get your mix sounding great when you DO listen on consumer-grade speakers and headphones. some of the reviews mentioning the 'weak' bass response of the AKG K240s are way overblown. there IS a roll-off in the low end, but it's not drastic or distracting unless you've gotten too used to listening to hyped lows in other headphones/speakers. once you get acclimated to not being force-fed your low end anymore, you may not want to go back. I mix in a well-treated, but not great room (it's basically a small square, so even with treatment, my low end is tough). I'd been using a cheap pair of Tascam headphones (TH-300X) when not mixing on speakers, and they definitely fall into the bass-heavy category. the ADK K240s do not, and I'm thankful for it. they've got a nice, clean sound throughout the spectrum, and despite that roll-off, they remain very clear-sounding all the way down, which makes it much easier to hear whether I've got good separation between instruments in the low end. if you're looking for a great set of budget headphones for mixing, these are a really good value. if you're not doing audio production/engineering, and you just want a good set of headphones to listen on, there may be better options. oh, and a word about the included headphone amp...it looks nice, but it's trash. at least two of the outputs would only output both left and right channels until their volumes were about halfway up, and after that, one side would cut out. it probably was the same for all the outputs, but I didn't test, since it was an obvious lost cause. that said, I didn't buy it for the headphone amp, so I'm not detracting any score for that. ... show more

  • Good sound quality
Light on my ears and head. Good sound, not too bass heavy. Good overall balance btw bass/mids & treble. Good for home studio stuff.

  • Quality
Last pair I purchased was in 1988. They lasted a long time.

  • 5 * for headphones / 2 * for amp
This is my first set of open air headphones, and initially I was disappointed with the sound quality, especially in the low end. Connected to the enclosed amp, these headphones simply don't produce power in lower frequencies. This leaves the sound flat, and the mid ranges too prominent and dull. It's not a good sound at all. It wasn't until I hooked the headphones up to my LG V20 which has a DAC and supplies more power, that these headphones worked properly. And wow, what a difference a DAC makes. Even with the wimpy DAC/Amp on my phone I can tell the impressive sound these headphones can create. Listening to high-res music, 96/24 and above, changed my understanding of good sound. I'd 100% recommend these headphones for the great value, just don't expect the bass of closed headphones, and get a DAC/Amp to go with them, even for $20 this amp doesn't cut it. (Not sure the parlance, but the amp has no independent channel circuitry; when I hook up my cheap, noise-producing monitor speaker into channel 2, it will introduce some of that noise into channel 1, where the headphones are hooked up, and worse, cause clipping in the right side of the headphones. A corner was probably cut in that circuitry.) ... show more

  • Great cans for the price
1 star on noise cancellation, only because open backed cans aren't made for cancellation of noise. These sound great for mixing and reference needs.. Super light and comfy, actually forgot I had them on for a minute. Love the fact you can unplug them at the can. Highly recommended for small room and close quarter listening. ... show more

  • Great value for the money if they're for your kids
REVIEW UPDATE! Do not waste your money on this! After listening through these... they lost the sound quality. I could hear through them enough to do some mixing but the mor I used the thr more the sound through them disappeared even with the volume turned up to its maximum level on the Presonus sound board. In a nut shell i use d to like the AKG headphones. But now not so much or better yet...at all. Wish i could send them back for a refundI like the sound quality as well as the fact that it came with the amplifier. They fit just right over my ears! I use this to do a mix at church. We're do live broadcasts each Sunday morning, evening & Wednesday nights. The broadcast has to have a balanced & clean mix. It is broadcast thru all media aspects. ... show more

  • Sound quality is superior!
They are a bit bigger than the 141’s that I bought back in the day, but still as comfortable. The sound quality is superior. Worth more than every penny!
