    • OK but not great
Instructions say not to touch the blades but I had to bend a blade to keep it from scraping the shroud. Probably a problem with how it was shipped without padding. After that, the gadget helped me diagnose and correct an air handler problem in a home. The air handler diagnosis paid for the the expense of the gadget, but I do not think the gadget is worth anywhere near what it cost. If I had had time to try different gadgets, I might have gotten a much better one, or a much cheaper one. 3 stars because it solved my problem. But it is not a great gadget. ... show more

    • Great Anemometer for Weather Spotting
I requested the H12 Digital Anemometer for additional information while weather spotting. As a ham radio operator, I’m called upon in bad weather to spot for the National Weather Service and the local population. Having a reasonably accurate anemometer is very helpful when providing weather conditions. Prior to this, I had to estimate the wind speed and I was never satisfied with my guesses. Now, I’m much more confident. I really have no accurate way to calibrate or test its accuracy but according to the manufacture specifications and other reviews that I have seen, I feel that it is more that adequate for the task at hand. I have noticed that it takes just a little air movement before the blades will start turning, so speeds under a mile per hour +- are not always available. Once the blades starts turning, then all seems well. I’m really not interested in speeds that low, so no harm for me. Battery life seems quite long, still on first set. I got this mostly to measure air flow on 3D printer fans, but also thought of using it to take windspeed measurements in the field. It is more intended for measuring air speed when the direction of flow is known (like in ductwork) so it's not ideal for windspeed, but it can give you a rough estimate. It comes in a handy soft case, with batteries (it would be nicer if it were rechargeable!). The display unit is fairly well made - I wouldn't say it's totally solid (don't drop it onto a hard surface!) but it's reasonable. It's quite easy to read, with speed/flow, temperature and humidity clearly displayed. Both the base unit and the wand have temp sensors - to read the ambient temperature you have to unplug the wand. The two thermometers aren't well calibrated though; in conditions where the two readings should have been identical, the base and wand differed by almost 1° C, which is worrisome. As for the wand, it's also moderately well made. There's no visible strain relief on the cable, which is a little odd. When I first started testing the device, I noticed that the rotor seemed to get stuck, requiring a jolt to get it spinning, which would have been a fatal flaw. Upon inspection, I saw that it was just that a sticker on the inside had lifted up and was interfering with the fan blades (pictured above). Once I smoothed the sticker down, the rotor spun in even the gentlest of breezes, so do be careful if you purchase this. I don't have any instruments by which I can test the accuracy of the device, unfortunately. It does seem pretty precise at least, giving repeatable results. The user interface is a little clunky, but serviceable; it displays in a pretty wide range of units (including Beaufort scale!), and if you can manage to enter cross-sectional area (really an odd interface to enter it!) it will compute volumetric flow for you. All in all, I think it's a reasonably good tool for what it's meant for (measuring airflow in ductwork or similar situations). ... show more

    • Works just as expected and keeps pace with more expensive models
This is a simple version of your Anemometer that operates exactly as expected. I tested it against a more expensive version that I own and I can attest to the accuracy and the speed of read. If you're looking for a simple wind guage for sports or outdoor purposes, this will absolutely meet your needs at a price point that won't have you explaining to your wife why you 'just had to have it'. As you increase in needs, this will serve as a great backup or a pass-me-over to a buddy that needs one but, for 90% of the users, this will do the trick! Instructions and usage are super easy, measurement is fast and accurate, and battery life is very, very solid. Very pleased with this hardware especially given the price point!
