See the EG01 below AG02 original review: The 5 stars here are warranted due to the dock's build quality and port flexibility Build quality: The system uses a name brand, off-the-shelf 1u form factor 80 plus platinum certified power supply - chickony R18-800P2VA. It's efficient and delivers it's rated output; it's durable and shouldn't fail; if it does it's hot-swappable with any 1u standard compliant interface. This is top-tier design-for-repairabilty that all manufacturers should be striving for. The power supply is integrated into the case so it doesn't have awkward spots where you bolt-on a powersupply you provide yourself. Flexibility: USB4/thunderbolt is great for hot plugging devices, but has bandwidth limitations. Oculink is great for bandwidth but isn't hot pluggable on most systems. This dock has both. Most of my use is with the usb4 connection - i don't need bandwith for the most part, but occasionally I do and wanted to see if oculink would work well for me, which is why i chose this one. Other Details: This switches between oculink and usb-c via a pair of PI3DBS16412 pcie switches and PI3EQX16904GL redrivers. It appears the oculink and usb4 pcie pins go into the switches first then the redrivers, but they shouldn't be necessary for the usb4 link and would do more for the oculink signal integrity if they were directly on that input. I don't know why that design decision was made, but i don't know that it's causing any problem. The dock is based on the asmedia 246x chip like many usb4 nvme enclosures. It's newer, cheaper, faster, and runs cooler than lots of the older intel thunderbolt chips that are still in use. My use is for FPGA and security testing; bandwidth doesn't matter so much as hotplug ability. I did test this dock with a few NVME drives and it performed like most other 246x adapters I had - bottlenecked by my laptop's usb4 implementation. Hidden perks: If you solder a header on the internal 'debug' connector, you can see the link training details as you plug and unplug devices. I ran this cable out the front of the chassis so it's there when i need it. Flaws: - For a high power card, you need to buy a separate "12VHPWR" power cable - the cables included will not work for most high power graphics cards. You also make sure you get the right orientation, and the right connectors ('evga type' worked for me). This really should have been included, but i understand why it was not - they're expensive, different gpus have these connectors in different orientations, and only a small portion of the users of this device might actually need that cable. But, aoostar should at least link to known good cables. - the graphics card support bracket isn't great, but does do the job. EG01: While cheaper than the AG02, this is still well built - mostly metal and designed to last. The cost savings comes because this dock doesn't support thunderbolt, it's oculink-only. You might think that this is a good deal if you're not planning on using thunderbolt - however, I think the AG02 is still a much better buy for everyone for a few reasons: - the AG02 has a power supply that's worth more than the cost difference between the two! With the EG01, you're going to need to buy a PSU. And then hook it up. And then have all those wires dangling around. And dedicate at least 7x10" on your desk to the dock. The AG02 has a built-in high-end PSU. It's compact and self-contained. It takes less than half the desk space - The AG02 is future proof. In 5 years, every computer will have a thunderbolt/usb4 port. Oculink will still be a specialty feature. When you repurpose this to hold something else - whether it is an old GPU, or a storage device, or something else - the AG02 will still work with less fuss. So - even at it's current price - it's hard for me to recommend the EG01. It's bigger, less elegant, more expensive after you add a psu, and short lived. It's not even that it's bad - it actually works quite well - It's just that there are better options i would definitely go for. One actual functional complaint - it doesn't fit my 3-slot 4090 because of how the cutout is designed. I had to remove the PCB from the case to actually test it (see photo)

Works great with my Rtx 4070. The provided type c cable is durable and effective but is also short. I would recommend accounting for that short cable distance when creating your setup or simply buying a longer one. It doesn't have an off switch so it will passively run unless you unplug it or cut off power to the wall outlet. It's a little noisy but not by much, it becomes background noise. Good value for your dollar, it's hefty and built well so theres no concern of it failing or collapsing under the weight of a heavy GPU. It's aestheticly pleasing and versatile with most GPU types, overall would recommend.

This external GPU dock functioned as expected, providing straightforward plug-and-play operation and the capacity to considerably enhance the performance of mini PCs or older laptops. It was primarily used for demanding tasks such as rendering and video editing. The build quality appears robust, and the flexibility of a potentially replaceable server PSU is a positive aspect. However, there are two concerns: 1. The GPU feels somewhat unstable, connected only by its small PCB connector, which makes it vulnerable to accidental bumps. A stand or back support would be advantageous for enhanced stability. 2. The power button does not fully shut down the device, and the power supply stays on, leading to constant power consumption.

I have been using the AG02 EGPU Dock for just about a week now, and I am quite impressed. I have paired this with a Geforce RTX 3080 FE card, and connected it to my Aoostar MACO 6850h and also my Aoostar WTR Max NAS, using both Oculink and USB4. Oculink was definitely faster, beating USB4 in my tests by about 15-20%. I have some screenshots of 3DMark Time Spy as well as Forza Horizon 6. The AG02 is powered by an 800W Platinum 1U power supply. I've read other reviews that state that the fan on the PSU is loud, and in my case, while it certain is somewhat audible, it is not annoying. The fans on my 3080 generated more noise when they spun up. Hardly anything to complain about, and with audion in the background from a game or something like that, it was unnoticeable for me. There's a power button on the unit, and as others have stated, it appears to do nothing. So. i did get a PSU extention cable with an on/off switch on it, so I don't have to unplug it to turn off the unit. Once the device is connected to the computer, and power supplied to the dock, when the mini PC turns on, it kicks on the EGPU. I encountered no issues setting it up and getting it recognized in Windows. Performance with my MACO 6850h showed me that the slower pcie 4.0 x4 speed of Oculink procduced about a 10% drop from desktop systems, so not awful but there is a performance hit. USB4 takes a further hit as it's about 15% slower in tests than the Oculink, but there is added convenience. In 3D mark the graphics score was 10% slower over Oculink than on a Desktop PC. The 2nd 3DMark screenshot shows Oculink compared to USB4, with USB4 being another 5% slower. Real world outside of benchmarks is more variable.The Forza screenshots look washed out as they were converted from HDR to SDR, but on the High preset, I'm getting between 70-90fps at 4K resolution. Overall, I like the AG02 very much, and think it's a very solid choice if you're looking for an Oculink/USB Dock, and don't need Thunderbolt 5. The only downside for me is the power button that does nothing.

Truly worked great for me never had any issues, the only complaint is that the power button doesn't really do anything at all just kinda vibes there with no purpose in order to power it off you have to unplug. Also the sound of it is lower than expected but if you've got other background sound it's not super audible.

Packed really well. I think i got new revision- the fan is very silent i have seen a lot of people saying the psu fan is loud and annoying. Mine dead silent Also works grat! On legion go s z1e version With 9060xt Works geart also for the internal screen The best vfm for my opinion

A great looking eGPU dock. Everything works well except the power supply. Dose not meet it's power rating on sustained loads. I capped the power of my 3090 to 350 watts and it still dropped power. The single internal fan just isn't enough to keep it cool. The noise was another issue. Its a very small diameter fan but it's blade design is not great. It makes a constant (although moderate) fan whine sound even when the GPU is at idle. The other big issue was coil whine on my 3090. I thought it was just the card being a standard 3090, but once I switched to the new setup, the sound it was completely gone. So the power supply of the AG02 was causing it. I switched to the DEG2 with a rm1000x power supply and have been running at a sustained 473 watts without an issue. All AI inferance, max load sustained for hours now without any of my previous issues. My final thoughts: the AOOSTAR AG02 is a great eGPU dock for sub 300 watt GPU cards as long as you don't mind the slight fan sound. But it's not for a 400+ watt card under persistent sustained loads.
